bolt on the 92 model throttle and inlet combo then you get a standard looking/cheaper alternative that fixes your issue.

Thanks for that.

I just deleted a few of my last posts, because I just realised that the ATS TB inlet is for 91-92 (and 1990 aswell), but not 91-95 (I was confusing myself with the 91-95 compatibility of the ATS intake manifold).

So in short, a 92+ TB with an ATS OR 1992 TB inlet would be optimal, right?
And just to clarify, if I put an ATS TB inlet on a pre 1992 TB, I will still have a restriction from the TB itself right, unlike the 92+ TB?

If the answer to both of those is yes, then I guess that's all I need to know, but let me know if I still have the wrong idea lol.

did you decide to delete the TVIS?

The early gen2's had a wierd restrictive trumpet thing.
The late gen2's did not.

The throttle bodies are the same size for all GEN2's though.

So basically you are after a late gen2 throttle body setup OR an early one with the ATS mod thing.

I had made the decision to retain it, but if I'm going to get the ATS intake manifold then I may decide to get a phenolic spacer from them while I'm at it. I don't know yet.

OK now I'm confused again lol.
It's not that your explanation is confusing, but because I'm getting slightly conflicting and/or ambiguous info from different sources.

There are two items to consider here:
1) Throttle Body
2) Throttle Body INLET (the thing that is trumpet shaped on my engine)

If I understand correctly, the Throttle Body is the same on all Gen 2 engines, but the Throttle Body INLET is different on early Gen 2 engines (such as mine?). Am I right so far?

Secondly, the Gen 3 engines have a larger throttle body than all Gen 2 engines right? In what year was the Gen 3 engine introduced? 1992, or later?

Another separate question, can anyone clarify if the bolt spacing on the intake manifold side of the throttle body is the same on all stock throttle bodies and plenums?

Yay you're on the right track now.

Inlet is diferent in GEN2's TB is the same. your one tapers, mines straight :P

Thanks Mark!

Kameleon said I should get a 1992 throttle body and throttle body inlet...is 1992 gen 3 or gen 2? I'm not good with gen 3 details as I have a gen 2. With gen 3 engines, are the throttle body and throttle body inlet both larger than all gen 2s, including late gen 2s?

1992 and 1993 are gen 2 (though some LATE 93 is gen3)

My engine is 1993 but is gen2.

With Gen3 setups the whole lot is slightly larger - I am not sure they bolt up though.

Gen 3's were introduced in October 93, i have a 90 Gen 2 Like yours and it tapers

TECHNICALLY we have Generation 1 MR2's (don't confuse this with a Gen 2 3S-GTE)

as far as i've seen, all the gen2's i've come across have had this tapered inlet funnel, but then again i'm not as well versed as kameleon, maybe he means bolt on a gen 3 tb + inlet?

anyway, sumantics, i was thinking of getting one of these inlet funnels aswell so maybe i should just put an order in for julian and i, let me know if you want me to get you one too...
