There has been some discussion about a AW class the last few weeks so I decided to discuss it more on the MTC thread. I may also create a thread dedicated to this concept if it goes in the right direction. As I have mentioned in the past, the creation of a MR2 series in Australia has always been in my sights. MTC is the initial step towards this. Establishing a regularity team of MR2 is the next (June anyone??), followed by a established class. There are enough cars out there, but getting everyone together and up to speed is the bigger step. I have established a contact to fill a spot at a motorsport event at Eastern Creek. Just need 20 cars and drivers to make the cut.
For the AW class, I'm ok with putting something together but someone else will need to manage it at the meet a I have enough to do during MTC.
Basically it can be loose enough that many cars will not need to go backwards to qualify for the class and not expensive to get into the class. It will not be door to door racing but just a class within the existing constraints of MTC. I would prefer to see people using/fitting at least a half cage/harness/ race suits if not simply for the safety aspect of it. Certainly unregistered cars which are trailered to the event, a cage is certainly preferred.
The basics will be a limited tyre size and tread wear.
1.6ltr with basic mods
Standard 5 speed box
Brake upgrade restrictions. I was thinking no 4 spot brakes, no two piece rotors.
Shocks restricted to one way units.
Springs free
No RCA adjustment.
Minimum ride height
I have also been working on another track which is going in the right direction. I have my name down to hire a track to be built for 4 meets a year with one being out aside for a third day for MTC entrants. The track is impressive. More on this as it comes to hand.
I have also found a driver trainer who works with the Radical Australia group who is keen to join us in 2016. I spent time with him a few weeks ago. Great guy, clever and good temperament.
