I've had no success getting hold of Michael (guy who replaces ECU caps) - nicks link above.
I've tried contacting him with no response thru both Gumtree, eBay and also sent him a SMS. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Wait for me to see how I go with mine and I might be prepared to do the job for a similar price.

Hi Electronics Experts,
Where do you buy the quality brands of Caps, if not Altronics & Jaycar ?

I bought them from Digi-Key which is based in the US. They have all the good brands and are cheap. Postage is high though. I paid around $20 for 3 day UPS postage.

These are the CAPs I used which are the correct ones for a gen 3 3sgte ecu. I went with United Chemi-Con and Panasonic.

C816 = 50v 10uf
C895 = 50v 10uf
565-1702-ND on Digikey - United Chemi-Con

C002 = 63v 47uf
P15285CT-ND on Digikey - Panasonic

C101 = 10v 100uf -> 50v 100uf
C894 = 10v 100uf -> 50v 100uf
565-3581-ND on Digikey - United Chemi-Con

C823 = 35v 15uf -> 63v 15uf
565-1718-ND on Digikey - United Chemi-Con

C004 = 35v 33uf
P14434-ND on Digikey - Panasonic

C105 = 10v 220uf -> 50v 220uf
P12397-ND on Digikey - Panasonic

You could use any brand you want for the CAPs as long as you use the suitable values. The price difference between cheap Jaycar ones and quality ones is not much. No need to compromise on quality when both options are super affordable.

My car is still running great by the way and super smooth. I fitted the fuel pressure gauge via the Blox adapter today and the pressures were spot on as per the BGB.

Howdy, Admin.
Is there a great deal of difference between the quality of the standard ECUs in AWs vs SWs? My AW is having it's 30th birthday this year & might appreciate a bit of ECU maintenance. What sort of dollar value would you be looking at for overhaul?

Quick update on my ECU repair of replacing 2 of the 8 CAPs. The only two visibly faulty.

Quite cold in Sydney this morning so I thought I'd test out my car when cold. Before the repair, driving under cold start conditions (before warmed up) the car would drive like crap. Could only use a small amount of throttle to stop hesitation/bucking. After the repair it is smooth as. Start car when cold (prob about 10c) and drive straight away. Amazing.

I'm still keen to get a professional to replace all the CAPs in my spare ECU as it's too much mucking around IMO (unless you are experienced of course) The guy I found on Ebay and Gumtree seems to be poor at replying back to inquires. I found his business though which may be a better way to reach him.

Nick, if you happen to get hold of the guy somehow and you decide to get your ECU repaired, let me know, I'll add mine to the booking repair, maybe we can send them together.
Note: I'm not on FB either, so that may restrict my contact options.

I had a look inside my spare ST205 ECU today, and it all looks like new. There is no deformation on the top of any of the electrolytic capacitors. They all look perfect, and both boards are perfectly clean.
I'll have a look at the ECU that is in the car next weekend. The history of that ECU is unknown.
My spare one is the original one from my car, which has been garaged all of its life, so it hasn't had to endure extreme temperatures.

just my 2 cents but its when they sit around for ages then get powered up the problems start..also visual is no gauge in my book,the manufacturer put a lifespan on the caps and that time has come and gone..
if anyone in Perths reading this thread and wants their ecu re-capped im happy to do it if you bring it round,
eastern states pm me directly if you dont get a result?

I fixed the tacho the other week by replacing the two caps. They looked fine.

Must have a look at the ecu at some stage.

Cheers
