Have heard so much about this intake thing on the beams engine... would love to see someone do a dyno run with a pod and then chuck on the real mccoy to see the difference.

I'm pretty sure that such information can be found on the BEAMS forum @ mr2.com.

Well in that case, how the hell do I get my hands on one of those miracles of god?
I need the whole damn thing, that's going to be difficult... :/

I got my MR2 redtop airbox and intake setup off yahoo auctions in Japan, via Import Monster (except for the rubber pipe that joins the airbox to the intake manifold, which I bought new from Toyota).

Given that Import Monster are next door to you and have a team of people on the ground over there, I'd say you should pester them to see if they can get their Japanese team to hunt one down for you. It may take a little while, but it would be worth the wait.

Make sure you get all the resonators too. They're all a tuned volume to ensure the best airflow through the entire intake system.

Roman, who wrote that post you've linked to Rick, is a knowledgeable guy on these things... so I suspect his conclusion is probably quite trustworthy.

I've read elsewhere that the BEAMS head, with the OEM intake, produces the highest flow rate of any 3S-GE/3S-GTE engines.  My own intake 'experiment' would seem to support the notion that you only produce it with the stock intake set-up too.

mister2 and rikkir.
Both of you, thanks for the help and guidance!

It's really interesting to know this stuff, I wish I only knew earlier (when I bought the car or before).
Knowledge, information and parts for the Redtop BEAMS engines are so scarce, really... I wish they were more available online etc.
There are only a handful of places you can find this information from (here being one of them).

Anyhow, I've contacted Import Monster already, they've asked me if it was for MR2 or Celicas as they might be different, so I just said MR2. Waiting to hear back from them...

I've also contacted Gorilla Industries and we'll see how far that goes too.

Thanks again lads, I'll let you know if anything happens :)

Also, while we're on this topic.
Should I be looking at anything else that might be an easy fix that is common with a swapped BEAMS?

The engine seems to be pretty healthy and the previous owner did a whole bunch of servicing (timing belt, rocker cover gasket etc.) before swapping the engine in (as it's so easy).

I'm changing oil & filter tomorrow as well. And I've even had to change passenger-side output shaft seal (was leaking like niagra falls).

But yeah, any tips appreciated! :D

Other than changing oil and filter regularly I haven't touched mine since I did the swap 2 years ago. I've done heaps of track days and been to the MR2 challenge at Wakefield Park twice and it's been fantastic. I've done about 30,000kms since the swap and haven't had any problems. It's worth taking it to the track to let it loose and see what it's really capable of. They love revs!
I'd highly recommend you take it to the MR2 Wakefield Challenge in January - it would be great to have another Beams there....

I'll do my best to make it then.
I'm prepping for a track day @ Winton Fun day early Dec.

Gotta get this airbox done properly and tyres. Hopefully I can make it to that, if not I'll try make it to that MR2 Wakefield Challenge :D

I travel from Ceduna in SA for the challenge. 1800kms each way. I do over 4000kms total, so you'll need a better excuse not to attend lol. Bring as many friends as you can, it's the best fun you can legally have in your car!
