Just wondering is it really necessary to drain fuel before removing the engine? I still have half a tank there...

nope, you will lose a little when you undo your fuel lines but it will be fine :D

Not necessary as you can just disconnect the fuel line from the engine and remove the engine separate to the tank

thats what i was thought, reading the manual it tells you to drain the tank to avoid getting a syphon effect and losing a lot of fuel, but i figure if i just keep the fuel hose from the rail up higher than the tank all is well.
Thanks for the quick replies!
Back to it:)

I have had that happen but only if I have had a 3/4 tank or more of fuel and it generally spills from the top of the fuel filter. But you should be fine with 1/2 a tank or so.

If the line is only clamped on, just find a suitable size bolt and whack it into the fuel line.

Also a good idea to loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve any pressure inside the tank.
But don't forget to re tighten it when the job is finished.
