I think i tend to agree...

Thanks for the post on my manifolds, funny enough I only found this thread by accident when I was on here finding out about sponsorship for my 2GR into SW20 mounts.

With this manifold I am happy to answer any questions people may have.

While I don't have any independent dyno charts myself I have seen multiple reports of solid power gains going to quad throttles. Up to 15% with the right velocity stacks seems about right. Why there is this much when quite frankly there shouldn't be anything I don't know. Part of it might be from a more aggressive tune with the new ECU.

Of note Link sells a plug in ECU now for the Beams harness.

I'd be interested to see dyno charts comparing the torque curve between BEAMS OEM (Yamaha) intake against an ITB setup.
Obviously the top-end of the rev range would benefit from ITB's, but how much it would affect low-and-midrange torque, and how that feels on the road, is a point for discussion...

When are you getting a Beams?

When are you getting a Beams?

When my rev4 3SGE starts getting tired, or an unpassable bargain rev5 JDM SW20 halfcut appears...

I don't think there are ever unpassable bargain Beams half cuts.... They seem to be getting dearer...

And the k's seem to be getting lower...

xez: I also would like to see that, unfortunately as much as I love hard proof via numbers I am not in a position where I can test that out.

Rick: As for buying engines would you really need the half cut? Other than the engine and it's bolted on accessories what else would you need? I can say from my own personal experience buying an engine out of Japan direct can be seriously cheap. Even if it's for a conversion if a quad throttle intake is used then I think the only thing needed would be the engine itself with the fuel and other EFI stuff like VVT control + ignition, alternator, starter motor and from there the optional choice if people wish to use the original headers, flywheel and perhaps something like power steering. Even thing else shouldn't be needed. Also while the coils and fuel parts are expensive the VVT pulleys, the matching solenoids and other parts don't cost too much brand new. I have some of those bits in stock.

I did hear something the other day that was a worry though- apparently some engines have had the head of the titanium valves pop off after 100,000km. Maybe I should get more steel ones in out of the auto version.

Just regards to the gains of the throttle bodies, there is a Altezza (or two) running around the improved production series which run the Beams engine. One of these removed the stock intake system then installed a ITB's. It then revved to over 9k with some positive power gains. Quite remarkable but true. He is the guy who sold me the 1MZ ITB's and now races in the F3 state championship.

I have this:

I asked the guy where the peak power was in revs and he thinks by memory it was at 7200, it does indeed look like it drops fairly quick after that. I find this surprising seeing I myself have a 4age 20V and I am still making most of my peak power at my 8600 cut. This engine only has a 2 stage (on/off) VVT system on the intake as well.

For those interested this a dyno result is the result of a back to back run before and after a change of velocity stacks including optomising the tune for each between runs, so a completely fair comparison. The before is the 75mm set from a US company I have had some unpleasant run ins with so far and the blue is my 110mm. None of us expected the results to be this drastic, changing stacks shouldn't have such a result. Seems like these engines love a long intake system, although the OEM manifold does have long runners. By memory this was one of the TRD copy intakes which has a 15mm shorter intake length than mine. As my manifold set up holds the throttles 15mm further away from the head so this would be like using my manifold with 55 and then 95mm velocity stacks. Me and the tuner would both like to see something longer again used but bonnet clearance is an issue.
