Thanks for your offer Steve, but you have jumped the gun a bit.
First the MR2 Nationals 2017 is owned wholly by the MR2 Owners Club of Australia and will be organised by the Committee and people in South Australia who have a local knowledge.
We are already in discussions for the "Track Day" at the 2017 Nationals and don't want any confusion by individuals organising components of the Nationals without consultation.
I applaud the work you have done with your Track Day Challenge events and they add to the MR2 Movement overall for owners to enjoy. Go ahead with your event by all means, but the MR2 Nationals will be in addition to your event, NOT part of it.
That way SA MR2 Owners get to attend two different types of events in their State. My suggestion is to bring your planned track day forward to 2016.
Cheers, Kevin
Hello Kevin,
Thankyou for providing a clear picture of the structure of the Nationals as I was unaware a National body managed it.
Thankyou for the kind words regarding the MR2 Trackday Challenge. I do respect the decision of the MR2 Club of Australia to manage their own event.
I still feel it is advantageous to discuss some options which benefits everyone as the Clubs of Australia and MTC are on the page. This being, providing services to the MR2 community of Australia.
Something we should consider:
If MTC and N2017 came to a productive agreement there is a strong possibility of the majority of the MTC entry list enjoying a few days in S.A. with N2017. I get excited just thinking of the smiles on everyone's faces!
Working together to have the first MR2 'demonstration' race would be incredible. I am sure Club of MR2 Australia could organise some of the original race cars to attend.
The only issue with having one trackday is this:
Here is a example:
When I appeared at the Winton trackday(Monday), that was due to myself competing at Winton on the Fri/Sat/Sun (second outright in SuperTT which I was very happy with!). If I was not able to drive at the race meet, I may not have appeared (the only registered race car at the event).
Another:
If MTC was one day, interstate drivers would not come along as it is not worth their while. Even now, we have three days booked in (MTC 2016), with discussions for another day (possibly) Eastern Creek as this works for the 8+ entries which come from S.A. and the many other entries from Qld/Tasmania/Victoria/ACT/Northern NSW/Japan. This is simply there to allow value for time and money for these individual's.
The solution:
Have a MTC event which runs for one or two days in conjunction with N2017 trackday.
or
Planning the N2017 around other motorsport events which will inspire trailered cars to make the long haul to S.A.
This could be a race weekend at Mallala or a Hillclimb at one of the Hillclimb tracks.
Kind regards
Steven
