That thermostat looks wrong!

Nice driveway thoguh :P

No... matched it with the original that came out. 56mm in diameter.

Nono, not the diameter, that plunger.  The OEM thermostat has a MUCH shorter plunger on it (only about 10mm long or close to that)

Joe had one like that in his car when he got it, it wasn't sealing s**t, so the car never got up to temp.  Chucked a proper OEM one in and its going great since!

I'll find a pic later

 A little more progress:

Finally got another crank.

Clutch ready for installation.

Got a pair of 25mm hub centric wheel spacers to step the back out a little :-)

Though I might aswell make the valve cover look a little more presentable.

More to come...

Looking good mate.

I ran the 25mm spacers the first time I took my car out. For some reason it did not work. The car was very unstable but it may have just been a one off situation.

Small update.... but frustrating one at that:

Block honed, cleaned & ready for its new crank..

Second hand linished crank, new standard bearing etc installed - all was good thus far.

Installed new 'Rear main seal' in the housing, proceeded to fit on crank / block... Dam, crank end too small (some 2-3mm OD).

After scratchin my head for a few minutes, found out Toyota wreckers had actually give me the wrong crank, even though '3SGE' is written on it. :-((
After a little research, looks though I have been given a 3SFE crank instead.  (flywheel bolt holes are slightly smaller in diameter too).

After putting a total stop to the build then, all I could do was get rods & new pistion / rings ready for installation...

Till next time.

I have never know an engine build to be easy. At least you are learning something new!

Progress is all go now :-)

Picked up yet another crank Friday, this time its a winner!

Crank installed, along with conrod bearing, new rear main seal etc.

New Hi-comp pistons, rings installed.

Staring to look like a motor again :-).... new oil pump.

Recon'd head all bolted on!

New hoses & titanium heat shielding applied to 'Hoses from Hell'....

Finished the night off after installing the metal heat shield & new manifold studs & gaskets.
