I had a great day at Mallala, the car was faultless, even totally stock with cheap road tyres.
Although i had the back slide out a couple of times, i managed to catch it without the car spinning :)
I managed a best of 1:34.97, which i think is pretty good for a stock NA MR2.
I wonder if Carmikey or another SA member can confirm if this a reasonable lap time for a first time at a track?
I think i'm addicted lol. Pity i live 800km's away from the nearest track!

How did you go with your tyre pressures at the track? Did you try adjusting, did you find big differences in each corner after each session in the pressure?
After my track sessions I find my (RS-R) tyres pressures are out massively to what I started on but I didn't take a pump to the track so not much I could do about it but definitely will be investing in portable compressor. After a 45 degree day at Winton last year I found one tyre down 10psi on what I started. Basically every tyre read a different PSI once cold and back home. I filled all mine 36psi cold before going there.
As for lap times I can't really say I've never been to Mallala or anything but looking at NATSOFT you can see cars times, an excel from the excel race series can get around there in 1:30 to 1:34 for the slowest but they will be much lighter and probably on slicks. I found another MR2 1998 (not sure if its turbo or not) getting around in 1:27.9. I reckon you should be pretty happy, first track day, cars brakes and all held up without issue and you had a good time.

I did find the pressures varied a bit after the first couple of sessions and had to drop them a few psi.
The brakes held up without a problem, we only did 10 min sessions which was enough for 5 flying laps.
I did a total of 8 sessions across the day which was great. I was low on fuel by then lol.
I was really happy with the car, i drove 800kms to get there, did the track day and drove 800kms home (across 3 days) and the car was faultless. Engine temps stayed good and i was faster than the NA Supra and Skyline in my group (they were holding me up in the corners, but pulled away slightly on the longer straight (actually a long sweeper - when i was in front of them i managed to leave them behind after a few laps)
I've thought of a way to reduce the weight by 20kg's without touching it - I need to go on a diet lol.
I might need to check my timing later, the engine seems to be overrunning slightly when i lift off the accelerator to change gears. Other than that my arms and shoulders were getting a bit sore by the end of the day.....might need to exercise before the MTC (might help with the weight reduction too lol)

Found this vid on youtube, an AW11 with suspension mods managed a 1:34.77, so i guess my efforts are ok :)

Nice driving, not bad for your first day! Lines are looking pretty solid in my opinion. If anything I'd try to work on some "bad habits" such as resting one hand on the shifter or shuffling the wheel unless absolutely nescessary. :)

I try to go there quite regularily and would love to see some more MR2:s! Ohh, and I'm the guy in the AW11 you linked btw. :)

Thanks for the feedback :-) Hopefully I'll catch up with you one day. Are you going to the MTC in January?

Just found out about it thanks to a little Googling, fairly new and not overly active on this forum yet. :)
Sounds like an awesome event, would love to go! However I think the combination of work, the old man visiting over from Europe and the distance, lack of trailer & car to tow with makes it a bit difficult.
Next one up for me is should be the practice day on Dec 6 if I get my parts for fitting my wheels till then.

I'm hoping to join the Celica and Supra guys again in September at Mallala next year too. I don't have a trailer either, i drive my car to the events and back again..... Mallala is a 1600 km round trip, and Wakefield Park is a 4000 km round trip.... I don't know what I'll do if i have a breakdown lol.

You will be fine Rick, a group of us did it exactly the same way last yr to MTC.  Providing you are not abusing your car on the track, you shouldnt have a problem... that being said, crap does just go wrong at times.

It will be a lot ease this yr, as Im trucking my car over.  That will provide Piece of mind when on the track... was always thinking & very conservative on track last yr because of that exact reason.
