The adventure begins !

The car (no pics yet) :
Red 1986 JDB aw11
CSA 15x7" rims
195x55 rubber (changing to 50)
Tokico blue struts
King springs : std height, but stiffer (can't find the spec just now).
She's a bit rusty on the windscreen top and in a few other places, and the paint is peeling off an earlier red layer.
The panel shop is on the list.

I've owned her about 9 months, and am very pleased, once I sorted out all the niggles : clogged cooling system, loud exhaust, too low, shot struts.
She's fine now, but I didn't like the 1-2 gearing, and felt a bit more zip would be nice.

So, after 3 months waiting :

Thursday : a 1999 BZR halfcut arrives. 20v blacktop, six speed, helical lsd (I think).

Tonight :

Ridiculous brakes (which I am selling)

And a van-load (literally) of bits to re-use, sell, or junk

Next :
Order wiring loom from mr220v in the states; buy c52 gearbox for the shift linkage and centre casing.

Updates now and then, but first - more waiting.

In case anyone is concerned about me "butchering" an original adub, it was already a bitzer when I got it. I'm also keeping the original drivetrain, ecu and loom intact, so it can be replaced one day, if necessary. This is my (non-floating) toy, so I intend to keep it for a while.

I'm fitting 87+ disks too - with the right pads, they should be fine.
The half-cut came with 275x25 50 disks, if I recall, and twin-spot calipers (st165?), but they're a bit extreme for me : you'd need to upgrade the rear to match, and then the master cylinder.
The disks and calipers fit in a 15" rim in the donor trueno, and the disks will fit an aw11, but I don't know how the calipers will go : they may need custom brackets.
Anyway, that's not my problem.

I hope to have it finished by this October; it was supposed to be my winter project, while it's too cold & windy for fishing. So yes, HH is on the menu.
Of course, my performance at HH was all the fault of the car; more power will magically improve my driving skills, won't it ?

ps I think I must have at least one unnecessary garish anodised fitting, but I can't decide on colour, or which fitting. Must have no practical use.

Another weekend's work. Scrap steel to crusher, plastic to tip, big workshop tidy up.
Then back to the fun stuff: engine on stand and stripped down.

Under all the covers there's an engine :

Nice factory manifold :

And the not-so good news; under the cam covers, there's this :

Looks just like Road and Track's photos!
http://www.roadandtrack.net.au/OldWebSite/Documents/Toyota%20engine%20failures.pdf

The black stuff is crusty, and comes off in small chunks when you scrape it. It looks like the head has to come off for a cleanup. And while the head is off, may as well strip it and do it properly...
More time and $$$; at least I don't have a deadline.
Anyway, I'm still waiting for a loom and a c52 gearbox, so the project is stalled for a week or two.

ps Flywheel needs machining & clutch needs replacing : no real surprise there.

Next week: the head comes off, and I get to see all those valves I paid for!
