Jock
Hey hey!
I recently bought a 94 sdub and will be picking it up tomorrow, and thought I'd use this opportunity to introduce myself as well.

I'm located in Adelaide, only 16 years old, so still on the ol' L-plates but have wanted an MR2 for a while now. I found an awesome deal on Gumtree after two or so months of searching and grabbed myself a completely-stock Red SW20 N/A (since turbo's are a no-no for P-platers). At the moment, I want to get into the car and learn how rear wheel drive handles differently and learn the ins and outs of it so by the time I can drive unsupervised I'll know I can get out of a sticky situation if it ever occurs.
Anyway, onto the car.
It's in awesome condition with the only 'problem' being faded paint on the driver's side door (I suspect its been replaced at some point), so the car is pretty much hassle-free for now. I don't plan on modifying it at all while on my L/P plates because it keeps the cops off my back and gives me the option of selling it easily if I had to (which I hope I don't!). If I do modify it later on, I might chuck on a different set of rims, Tom's side skirts, different spoiler (wide body 2000GT one maybe), leather seats and some coil overs perhaps. I'm not really into modifying the hell out of the car and turning it into some ricer piece of crap with gauges in the interior left, right and centre and carbon fibre bits everywhere.

I also have little car knowledge at the moment, so I'm really counting on the expertise of you guys on the forum to help me out when needed, which I would so thankful for.
Cheers,
Jock

Hi Jock,
Welcome to the forum, and sounds like you have yourself a little gem of a car there.

Another mr2 member in Adeliade now, we are slowly growing, maybe if you get a chance next week end we have a meet, would be good to see this mr2 or yours if you can convince someone to come along with you.

You wont regret it if you get hold of a cams or aasa licence and start doing track days. Imo, best way to enjoy the blessings and curses of the mr chassis. The best thing is, you can drive it to the track drive it hard all day then top off the tank and drive it home and it wont miss a beat because it's a Toyota.

Nice car!!  what an awesome beast for a first ride!

+1 for some track time/driver trainingdays with the car, and take it easy as they can bite if you are unwary of its behaviour near the limit.

Cheers

Hey Jock welcome to the forums you'll find ppl here are friendly and helpful and not judgemental (in my experience).
I like the fact that you really want to get more time and experience with the car because more important than the car's behavior, is the driver's behavior/attitude that may cause that "sticky" situation. I don't like ricer stuff too (my idea of a cool looking exhaust may be disputable however) but it doesn't hurt to have oil pressure, oil temp for those trackdays if you go :)
