G'day, as some of you might know. My engine dropped oil pressure and has been since torn down.

Unfortunately I didn't catch it as early as I was hoping and subsequent scoring has occurred on the crank, bores, and cams (incl. journals)

The machine shop says that the bottom end is saveable, but the cams are stuffed and the journals need polishing.

The dilemma I have is that the cams are Brian Crower 264's and are worth saving if possible.

Does anyone have any experience with "line boring" cam journals and fitting bearings to the journals?

I figure this way I can have the cams machined down and saved, since the scoring is only on the journals, not the actual cam lobes.

Line Boring seems to be one of those things which has disappeared overtime like shot peening.

Sounds more exp than getting another set of cams.

Well they said that because of the scoring on the journal, they're not even sure whether it will be within tolerances after polishing.

So I'd probably just buy another head or long block.

I really only want to do this once.

You would replace the head and caps at that point. Never even heard of anyone fitting any type of bearing to a integral cam carrier head like the 3S.

Shot peening is still around, just easier for people to buy stronger rods cheaper these days.

I had a gt4 3sgte with a gen 3 head with some bearings on the cams. Not every journal.
Previous owner did it, but I never had a problem.
So it is doable.
