No, roo whistles startle the roos but dont assure that they get out of the way. Easiest way to determine your course of action is to look at its position. If you can pass it on its back side while its still blinded you have a pretty good chance of getting through without it coming at you as they take a bit of work to turn on the spot as opposed to how quick they can leap forward.

If they are upright and stretched out they are generally not going anywhere, if they crouch down and you cant take them on the offside, smash those brakes on as hes ready to skip.

Its a different ball game interacting with roos in the mr2 compared to the colorado. In the collie you just make sure you have them lined up at time of impact and the bullbar takes care of the rest. In the mr2 you pretty much try to act like a cheetah on cocain.

I can't even imagine the amount of damage a big roo would do to an mr2 especially if you hit it doing something like 100

 
I hit a roo in one of my other MR2's at approx 120kph and it did pretty much nothing. I hit it square on and it basically slide up over the hood, off the roof and that was about it. 

Hitting them on the right bounce can be a blessing in disguise. then I hit another one side on at a decent rate of knots and it caused the damage in the pics:



the structural section on the back of the left hand headlight was the only bit of damage that concerned me. however a mate done some DIY panelbeating and it came good again. so to top it off some support was welded in on the underside to build some strength back into it

 
 
I don't know where the pics are, but I hit a pig in my SDub as well. they do some damage. bumper was buggered as its like hitting a brick wall when you hit a pig.

CABLE TIES!, how the hell did i not think of packing cable ties!. They basically hold the mine I work at together, of course I need cable ties!!. 
 
I have a few leathermen, I carry one in each car without fail. 

Cable ties and leathermen? Just what sort of place are you going to?
 
 
But yes a good knife is a must, i'd be taking a stanley knife as well. Nothing worse than getting some discarded rope or a plastic bag wrapped around a wheel or shaft.  
 

Other things I keep in the car:

• 5 Liters of Distilled Water (For coolant or cleaning)
• Couple lengths of vinyl or plastic hose, one for bleeding the coolant system and one for bleeding brakes (with an 8mm spanner for the bleed nipples)
• Brake fluid
• Box of assorted nuts and bolts
• small fire extinguisher (Behind drivers seat for quick access)
• large fire extinguisher in boot
• Fuel hose
• 1/2 inch breaker bar with 3/8th adapter and wheel nut socket
• magnetic torches and lanterns

 
Large fire extinguisher because, sometimes you just need more... whats your car worth?

Nuts and bolts - I have used these each year I have driven to sydney. Stuff just rattles loose, especially with coilovers. I lost the nut off my swaybar this year lol.
 
 
You have all forgotten the BEST and most valuable tool that you can take with you. It can litterally fix everything and get you home if needed. Roadside assistance. I cant stress this enough after my alternator failed on the way to Sydney. 

I pay $180/year for Ultra Car with RACQ. I'm covered anywhere in Australia and they give me $3k worth of interstate/long range benefits every year. I broke down 300kms outside of Sydney and they towed me the rest of the way for free! it cost them over $1k to do that, and they were even prepared to tow the car back to Brisbane if that's what I wanted. 

Doesn't matter how many tools you have, sometimes you need a tow or a jump start.
