Hey guys what compression would you expect in a NA 3sge GEN 2?

And what would the max acceptable difference be in % between cylinders?

Thanks,

David

Generally:
0-5psi variance = perfect
5-10psi variance = good
10-15psi variance = acceptable
15psi + = further checks needed.

To compare cylinders, test should be done with a fully charged battery, clutch in, full throttle and same number of cranks with all the other plugs out.

I dont know the spec, but i would assume 150-185psi would be the normal range.

Test should be done after the engine has been warmed up (stone cold test on older engines is a bit unfair)

If one cylinder is down, repeat the test after pouring half a soda bottle cap of engine oil down the spark plug hole (a.k.a wet comp test) if comp number increases dramatically, most likely cause is worn rings.

If it doesnt really change, it is recommended to do a leak down test, to check valve sealing.

According to what I have read, a good condition gen 2 3sge should have readings around 180 psi or more, if an accurate tester is used.
Readings may vary depending on kms and carbon buildup etc.

Hey guys thanks so much for that just did the test readings were heigh 180-190psi and all with in 5-10psi. Did the wet test and got about 10psi all round. The only think I didn't do is open the throttle, I'll test again to see the difference.

Thanks,

David
