Thought i'd show you my new ride.
The car was running a 4afc carby motor putting out an extremely unimpressive 60kw or so at the fly haha
So how does it drive? Its absolutely gutless, and it handles like crap lol But since it only weighs around 1050kg it doesn't take much to get it going and handling really well.
I always wanted to build one of these cars up with all the Corolla SX Gear so I had bought a parts car and swapped everything over.

Well I did promise updates over the weekend and here they are :)
We will start off with some from earlier in the week. Well the dirt, grime and grease around the car was starting to get to me so I got the degreaser out (and some upholstery cleaner which also works quite well for road grime suprisingly).


I also got my dream set of wheels after all. They are 17x7 +40 offset Lenso RC2 Wheels. As you can see the ride height is a huge issue at the moment. It looks like a camry sv21 at the moment lol This was soon going to be rectified with a set of Lovell Springs.

 
Here is a photo of the fronts with the Super lows in. I haven't taken the car for a drive since, so I think it should go down a bit more (the angle doesn't show it that well too). The backs take a bit more work to do, I have to take the parcel shelf and rear seats out to change them so I will wait for tomorrow to do that.


And now for my parts car that will be feeding my Sedan all the Corolla SX goodies. Its a 1991 Corolla SX Seca, sporting the awesome 100kw 4age 16v smallport motor. I will sell out the other bits I don't end up using. The motor will need a full rebuild as its down on compression but it will supply me larger disc brakes, disc rear brake upgrade,front control arms (with the provision for a front sway bar), 7 gauge SX Dash Cluster, Corolla SX Seats, Corolla SX Door Trims and various interior trims. The motor should come out in the next few weeks and I will start dismantling it to review what parts of the motor can be used and what will need to be upgrade.

 
The one awesome thing I loved about it was the tow bar. I am very tempted to chuck it on the Sedan, there are some times I wish I had the ability to move motors or gearboxes around in a trailer and having this on the car would be pretty awesome.

 
Just checking out that awesome EFI wiring/fuse boxes that my car so dearly misses being Carby. I'll end up swapping the whole body and engine loom over into this car eventually.


I pulled the seats out of the Parts Car (seca sx). The Carpet is in quite good nick overall so I may end up swapping this over to mine (or just buying a new carpet from Knox Carpets)

 
The dash was perfect except for a few scratches near the glovebox. I am a bit of a perfectionist and hate wear like this so I might source another before doing the whole dash conversion.

 
Here is the glorious 4age motor after a degrease (engine bay included). Came up quite well I think. Its quite cluttered with that big air box in there though.

Wasn't long till I stripped the SX bumper and grille. I'm tempted to swap the lights over as well to see how it looks. I can always change it back.


The bumper needed a good clean.

 
The only issue is a crack near the number plate, I will try plastic weld this hopefully.


Here are the Corolla SX Seats getting a wash. The drivers side cushion foam and fabric has worn quite a bit. I will try find another (or try repair it for now). My aim would be to buy a set of Levin GTZ seats, they are really comfy and very adjustable.

 
The Door trims are in pretty good nick. The back 2 pocket handles are in fanastic nick too, the fronts aren't as good.


 
I was taking off the door trims and found the wierdest thing, the door trims were stuck to the door. Has anyone else seen this before?

 
The head looks pretty clean, there doesn't seem to be any bad carbon deposits.

I remember a friend had the SX when it first came out. We were out driving one night and decided to see what it could do. It was a quick little package with a speed which the Germans would be happy with. Economy was very good too.

I got the rear springs done so the cars looking pretty neat now. The wheels are sitting just in from the arches so they are the perfect offset without having to roll the guardes or adjust camber on the rear.
I should have the interior back in this week, and a new stereo too. The stock speakers were all torn up and shreaded so i'll have a set of 4" Jaycar Kevlar Speakers and a set of 5.25" Speakers for the rear (still haven't decided on which brand yet).
I'm not sure if anyone remembers but Jaycar used to sell a 10" Dual voice Coil Metal Cone Subwoofer? I found a set of 2 second hand which i'd love to try an isobaric setup. I want the subwoofer box to be easily removable if required.

I wasn't happy with the factory shocks that came with the car. The car was extremely bouncy at the back. I was hoping the ones from the Parts car were in good nick, and luckily they were in very good nick. Apart from a rusted sway bar link bolt, the shocks were nice and quick to swap around.
I know the Corolla SX Front seats will go in no worries, but I was feeling particularly adventerous and decided to try the top part of the corolla sx cushions. To my suprise they bolted up and locked into place perfectly. My only problem now is mounting the bottom cushion. On the Seca model, the seat actually hinges at the front, allowing the seat to be folded up and the back seats to fold down (allowing for more space). The sedan model clips into the floor at the front so I might try remove the cushion material and fabric from the Corolla SX Seats and try and install it onto the sedan seat.

What would a Thursday be without some updates :) I got around to taking a few shots in the driveway. Its all coming together. Amazing its the same car as my first post on here. 


I decided to pull the original bumper off and try out the SX bumper i've had aside in my "to Install Parts" pile.


On with the new bumper (with factory lip). I still need to find another grille as I ended up destroying it in an attempt to make it more GT/Aero hehe.

I got the SX Door trims all on. The drivers one has some wear in the fabric section but I might end up finding a replacement at the wreckers. Since these trims were from the seca model I had to trim the top window seal on the 2 rear windows slightly. Was easily done with some scissors and it looks factory.

The weekend should be pretty busy. I will be pulling out the 4age from the seca parts car and start on the wiring loom. I'm hoping the seca parts car will be ready for pickup by the scrap metal place by Christmas.

Got started this weekend on installing a stereo. The front and back speakers were considerably worn and sounded horrible. The car is mainly used for a daily driver especially at the moment with the 66kw 4afc motor. I ended up getting 4" and 6.5" (for rear) Kevlar speakers from Jaycar.
I am using a Response 800w Monoblock amp to run a set of twin 10" Response Metal cone Subwoofers in the boot (dual 2 ohm voice coils)..
I ran 3 sets of RCA cable through the passenger side of the car (near the door) and ran the speaker wires through to the back of the car (for the amp).

The first thing I wanted to do was to see if any shorter shifters would fit the stock shifter mechanism.


The Caldina ST215 factory shifter was a good 2-3cm shorter and a small amount longer at the end so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try it out.

I dismantled the shifter and things were looking promising so far.Unfortunately my luck was short lived as the diameter of the end plastic sleeves were smaller on the Caldina. I might be able to find plastic sleeves that may fit but for now I will leave the original one back on there.


Here are the 4" Kevlar front speakers I bought. They are really great quality and have a decent 60w RMS power rating. The magnets are quite big too.


Here is the reassembled gear shifter all painted (I did it satin black). Its something that is all hidden away when you put the trims on but its nice to know its all greased up and neat.



Now the real fun starts :) I started dismantling the Parts car for its 4age goodness.


First started off with a few rusty exhaust manifold heat shield bolts which 5 out of the 6 came out nicely (only one broke off). This will be replaced with some 4-2-1 Extractors so I just needed it to be removed so I can get to the bottom bolts of the exhaust manifold


I went to remove the fuse box. I should be able to use my front loom (lights, horn, thermo fan) from the other car and just use the rest of the body loom from the parts car. Still a huge job ahead swapping the full body loom over.


Everytime I see my engine bay I can only imagine how big the grin on my face will be seeing a 4age in it. My engine bay is so much cleaner than the parts car one lol. I found a chunk of dust/gravel and leaves the size of a pod filter ducked in the back left of the parts car lol. I could actually lift it out in one whole piece.


I was happy to see a newish radiator in the Parts car which I will be sure to use it on my car.


I absolutely love the look of a SX dash cluster. 7 gauges look fantastic across the dash.

I got started today on stripping the parts car as much as possible. I can't remember how many loom plugs I would have removed today so I thought i'd take a photo of 2 of them being removed lol. I took photos of everything so I knew where everything went. I've tried going by memory in the past (i'm sure we've all done it before) and the second you go to put it back on you always end up with a huge bunch of wires that don't connect to anything and a huge bunch of bolts and nuts spare lol


The wires under the steering column aren't too bad. Everything unplugged quite nicely. I removed the indicator and window washer stalks were removed and I will use those on my car (the indicator stalk on my car is coated in what looks like sweat and dead skin from previous owners lol).


Before I knew it the whole back interior was out and so was the dash. It was pretty filthy under the carpet and seats.


Dahs is looking pretty bare at the moment. Just a case of picturing all the positions of the wire looms and earth connections. Last thing I want to do is miss any of them when going to assemble the dash.

Here is the chunk of dirt I found near the fuel filter. It looks like a piece of meteor with gosh knows how many natural occuring elements (and bugs) inside it. Pretty aweful stuff.

More dirt found under the seats. This was 1cm thick. Nothing the vacuum couldn't clean up for me.

More earth wires... I'm amazed at the amount of wiring in a car. Truly a masterpiece in design (cars that is, even for the 90s)


Heres how the engine sits today. Only fuel lines are connected are left connected to the firewall now. I pulled the loom through the firewall and set it aside on top of the motor.
The exhaust wasn't too bad to get to. I do like to make things a bit easier and got the impact wrench out. Had to use a really long extension bar for the passenger side bolt. Made it super easy though.


Got the 1/4 panel off to pass the wires through from the fuse box to the firewall. Was easy enough. The only thing I have a problem with at the moment is removing the driveshaft bolts. I've never had one I couldn't remove in the past but this one is extremely tough. Will need a bigger breaker bar lol


As the car sits after a day of work on it. Boy that was exhausting. Will be sure to put up the parts (and chassis) up for sale once i've got it completely dismantled and the engine out. Should have the motor out by the end of the week I hope.
