Well well well ...............  the car decided to break down on me today :/ . it wouldnt start ... and i had to tow it to local toyota. They have found a problem to ECU thats faulty ....  this is just great!  and the part will be $2500 from Japan !!!  :(
My rego is due in 3 wks time. So Tmw i will speak to toyota in person and explain further re the engine and ecu being replaced few mths ago .
At first I thought it was the immobolizer .  Toyota has tested it with their computer and come up with ECU being faulty ???!!!..........
Do any of you have gen3 ECU for sale ?
ffs

Turbo or NA ECU?

If it was recently replaced, surely there's some warranty somwhere? Unless you replaced it with a 2nd hand unit...

Are you sure its the ECU and not just the ignitor module that's gone? Might be worth getting it double checked by Logicar or someone reputable. I had a lot of people say my ECU was gone when having issues but turned out to be perfect, was the ignitor module causing my issues. What I found out through a lot of places is that the ECU's rarely go. Getting it bench tested might be useful, they can even repair ECU's if need be.

well its na ECU .

I have spoken to terry about this and he said he will have a look at his stack of ECU but need the model number of it .

Track-mr2 ,  thats what i thought , it was weird for the ECU .  But im seeing toyota tmw to confirm and will ask them to bench test them too.

Im seriously thinking its the immobolizer issue..  cos i didnt hear a loud click before starting the car and the half dash lights (engine and the other light didnt show up when pressed the keypad code). My alarm is brant nemesis with  6 imbolizers and a key pad.  I also called the brant ppl and they said it does sounds like the keypads faulty ........  (sigh)

too many opinions here i reckon .... so i will mention ignitor module to them to test.

Just a thought but we send ecus and other control modules to Injectronics for testing and repair best to check if they can do toyota stuff but they have a quick turnaround. I rarely see ecu's play up adn there is a technical bulletin about throttle position sensors causing toyota ecu's not to generate fault codes which could lead them to believe that the ecu is dead. Could also be causing your idle issues and most guys at toyota delearships probably rarely work on these cars and are under pressure not to waste to much time diagnosing faults properly.

Electrical stuff hotmr2... its a needle in the haystack sometimes, hence all the different opinions.

HorMr2,I didn't know you were using an aftermarket alarm system with 6 imobolisers. Definately have that checked first. The ignitor module fault will always register a fault code in the diagnostic so it that hasn't come up then it wont be causing your issues.

Talking of Toyota, my old Paseo had a tricky immobiliser (a screw on the dash) on it that when we delivered it to Toyota to service, they couldn't start it. They rolled it onto the diagnostic machine and it reckoned the ECU was dead and pulled the same "Oh yeah, the ECU needs replaced, it will be $1800" crap, my mum triggered the immobiliser and it started first go.... Four Toyota mechanics couldn't work it out and they sold us the flippin car!

sorry ..i wouldnt deal with them again after ignoring to my emails.
i have got new engine swapped done by them but still gen3 still runs rough at cold start.
I have emailed them many times and no answer.
so i;ve given up on them as they want nothing to do with it.
Ive paid $5500 for this new engine and still not happy with it.

(Sigh)

So, you paid Road and Track $5500 for an engine and install and it hasn't run right since you got it back and now it won't run at all? And no return of your emails?

Is that right?

Yes that's right dudeman. I did take it back to them to look at it and they don't know what's wrong with it.

Toyota did do the bench test and did say its has a broken circuit in it . They can repair it for $500. I'm not a fan of repairing it. It's prob better to replace with another ecu.
The outside casing of the ecu shows some corrosion . So I don't know if there's corrosion inside it as well.
Terry has finally replied and looking for another ecu.
