I say it often, Melbourne is pretty lucky to have such a rad bunch of MR2 dudes who all seem to know each other one way or another.

Even still despite our rarity on the roads I often see other MR2’s some local some far and have NO idea who owns them or if they even know about us. All a bunch of dudes, all midship brothers be it Adub, Sdub or Zdub. One such MR2 I’ve seen around alot in recent days living ridiculously close is the sweet Aquamarine Turbo machine of purple5ive whom I was lucky enough to take some killer shots with locally.

Purple5ive has an awesome machine, a labour of love with a paint finish second to none. I genuinely felt guilty being in some of the shots, spoiling everything the camera captured about the flawless Sdub. What I did enjoy most was being parked side by side the SW chassis, scoping the proportions, seeing what styling traits were carried across, from the inside to the outside I definitely have a better appreciation of our middle brother and a greater respect for my car and everything that went into making it the origin of Toyota’s MR’s.

The photo sess was a perfect excuse to get some snaps with the sweet new rubber (from fellow member aw11_vic) sitting in consciously and carefully rolled rear guards to safely accommodate the Bridgestone Potenza RE002’s 195/50/15 Fronts and small stagger 205/50/15’s Rear’s.

Further updates include, a minor scare 2 weeks back, a faulty connection to the Oil Pressure Sensor. Fixed. Front spoiler semi repair and have been driving around RdS style sans roof!

And dennis the menace, its outrageous! I couldn't agree more!
dennis the menace
Back a couple of posts, it's horrifying just what lies beneath the rubber trim on our cars.  Perhaps it's one of those jobs that needs doing once a year - remove the trims, clean and polish/wax the area, clean silicone the inner channel of the rubber and restore.
I've recently done all three of our cars - still in therapy . . .

Big thanks to purple5ive for the awesome lend of great equipment and for some of the great snaps posted here. Click this to check out purple5ive's sweet SW20:http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=6493

That’s it for now.

No way!!! That's awesome!!!
You'd may be glad to know you're the first and only person to have one!
Thanks so much!
And also cheers for the kinds words, its a great little car just don't stand too close or you'll see all the surface imperfections, paint fade, scratches etc...
Love it! Do you have an Adub Surgeon?!

Yeah, no problems. Fell in love with the picture as soon as I saw it on Redbubble.

I do have a AW11, but not quite as clean as yours. Completely stock 87, with original 4age and in need of a bit of TLC. Not sure if I want to start putting money into it yet.

New pics are awesome btw.

One of a few updates to come...

Cars been great! Only a couple of minor interior rattles to get on top of and a recent developing gearbox gremlin…

Last weekend purple5ive and myself met with the larger Victorian MR2 club at a local meet to say hi before the convey of MR2’s headed off on a cruise to Sorrento. It was cool seeing so many MR2’s, each different and so many AW11’s. First time I see a two tone up close and an adub with an automatic gearbox.

What a morning… Had a small issue whereby the car got beached in the carpark and cracked the LHS side skirt…. gah….. and then driving home “randomly” pulled over making sure we weren't doing anything suspicious…. should’ve just joined the cruise to Sorrento.

Alas! With a damaged skirt to replace and a few small issues that was all I needed to get motivated hence this update, refreshing a few things, making everything nice and shiny before it is excitedly part of the MR2 club display at this year Formula One Grand Prix!

From here forwards until lm done ill be repainting, cleaning, detailing, restoring, refreshing, and fixing a few ALL with the budget of approximately $0.00!

Challenge accepted.

Things to do:

Repaint wheels (Sand and respray).
Repaint rotor hats, calipers and brake shroud.
Clean/repaint under the wheel arches.
Replace Sideskirts (Clean/Refresh used spares).
Repaint OEM blackout marks on sideskirts.
Repaint / Polish all exterior black plastics.
Repaint/repair front spoiler (again….)
Repaint original wipers.
Polish taillamps.
Polish exhaust.
Detail interior.
Clean/detail engine bay.
Rebuild and inspect shift linkages.
High pressure clean/scrub/soak parts before assembly.
Try to cut and polish car myself?!
Get car to a presentable standard to represent the club.

Feeling confident (except for the cut and polish part). Will show before and after pics where applicable.

Update #1
Chemical Guy soak and clean. Masterclass with purple5ive.

Sanding prepping of components.

Ideally Id like to powder coat the rims, 2pac exterior parts and paint/oven bake the numerous parts but until the funds allow this will need to suffice.

Seeing the rear wheel wells are painted/sprayed in the rubber deadener after a thorough clean I thought I’d refresh them with a suitable rubber restorer - PolyGlaze Tyre Black. Worked amazingly good.

Wheelarch liners:

 Sideskirts:

Before/Right - After/Left.

Caliper, Brake shroud and rotor hats. Nothing loud just subtle and clean.

Thats all for now! More to do this weekend!
