Bearings arrived today!

Ended up costing me $110, so a minor savings compared to theBudget.
With a bit more diligent scavanging and DIY work, I might just make it under budget!

Bit of gearbox work...

i have a stock ecu & immobilizer unit if you want to get it running BEFORE installing a megasquirt :)

Once you get the squirt installed i will give you my .msq file and mappings- should give you a good head start

oh and its also a wise idea not to cut up the factory loom- you can buy an enclosure from jaycar and cut the socket out of a factory ecu and solder the MS3 loom straight onto the exposed pins. Makes for a very neat 1mz to ms3 "adaptor box"

I also used the enclosure for my wideband wiring & calibration button/light

I'm actually going to strip a lot of the wiring out of the standard loom, to just leave what I'll need (and maybe add a few extra wires to provision future sequential ignition). I want to avoid installing a stock ECU to get it running because I'll then get lazy and never bother with getting around to the MegaSquirt which will then leave me complaining about the poo pooness of stock ECU's

How did you go with your installation anyway? Did you go MS2 or grab a MS3?

You'll have loads of wires to strip out, the megasquirt requires bugger all!! Ive still got unconnected automatic gearbox wires bound up not in use, let alone all the other rubbish. Car runs GREAT though, minor overheating problem due to a dodgy thermostat- might be something for you to look into? Ive ordered a 160 degree thermostat, tt299-160 tridon brand, should do the same job as the TRD unit but half the price.

Though i am running a supercharger with no intercooler, you may not have this problem :)

Had some minor LSD fitment issues I didn't realise the other night.

Comparing the diffs, you'll see the stock open diff has a fair bevel shape below the bearing and speedo gear, the Helical LSD on the other hand doesn't.

This ended up causing the LSD to rub against the gearbox casing.

So I ended up grinding a bit of the casing rib away and removed a small amount from the speed drive entry.

Then it went back together a lot better, and rotated with minimal effort.

However, after torquing the case bolts up tight

I noticed it's binding again. Might have to grind a little more away and see if it fixed the problem.

Just looking at your pics mate, its amazing to see just how well a V6 fits in your mock up AW11

Great project i'll be sure to keep an eye on it. I've been through all 8 pages and wish this project has 8 pages more of progress :)

Good purchase on those coils too, they would be worth quite a lot :)

I should have made a fair bit more progress by now, but work has unfortunately hampered my schedule by limiting the amount of time off I can have between projects (We've just opened 3 new branches in QLD/NSW in the last 6 months.) However, I'm taking the week off between Xmas and New years to try to get the motor mounted in the car and most of the fabrication crap done. Then will schedule in another weeks annual leave after that to focus on getting it all wired up and running .

The coils were a bargain, couldn't really pass up on them. Did discover a cheap source of 3MZFE pencil styled COP's not long after [:P]
