Any chance you'll have it going in time for Mallala on September 26?

It's hard to say. Really depends on timing. If everything falls into place I will certainly be there.
There is still a fair amount to be done before it heads south but I am working on it every minute I can at this stage.
There are some aspects of the car I have to revisit. I have sorted out a few of these but still have a few important ones before I fire it up.
Welding of plates , improving brake pedal mounting points, fixing the mounting of the wing, replace the aluminium splitter with a plywood unit. There is a list with most being fabrication which takes a lot of time to finish.
The first 'A link' front lower control arms and subframe are now installed in the car. That was a treat. I made a error which has handed me a enormous amount of caster! Not such a bad thing. It is ok but it needs some adjustments to get it closer to where I want it. At least its now on the car and I can move it around.
The rear links are fabricated and ready to go. Looking forward to having this fabricated too. I'm confident it will improve the balance and manners of the car.
So yes, will see how I go over the next month.

Is that an elite 1500 or 2500 just out of curiosity?

Its the 2500. It will be wired up in Melbourne in the near future.
Engine is now in so its moving ahead. So relieving to see the engine finally in the engine bay! There is still a bit of work to be done before it is sent to the exhaust fabricator but it will be there in the a week or two then its off to Melbourne for wiring.

Steve could you please talk us briefly through your ECU selection/setup? I am considering the AEM Inifinity-6 deal Gouki is offering when I'm ready.

Sure Lucas,

I bought a Haltech Elite with harness then a 2GRFE with harness. The Toyota plugs will be adapted to the Elite.
All vvti can be managed, both O2 sensors, MAP sensor which will be adapted to a 'block' with inputs from each throttle body. The CAN can be expanded (as may very well know) with mine running a two port which allows communication with the Racepak dash and one for the O2 sensors.
The reason I did not go with the AEM ECU was the support of it which is very difficult to find. The Haltech or Motec has dealers and tuners on every street corner where the AEM does not. Initial purchase is less but you will loose everything you gained with purchase when sourcing a tuner and having it tuned. You will be paying someone to learn your ECU. This may not always be the case, but I have experience it in the past and will not do it again.
If you know Charlie in Melbourne, contact him for a Elite ECU.

Thanks for that mate;
Charlie had mentioned to me that he's looking into an ECU solution for the 2GR. He had an aftermarket ECU installed (can't remember brand/model) but removed it due to couple of issues he encountered.

Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to have a look at the CAN bus I have sitting in the car (from the previous ECU installation) as I deployed few days after I purchased it :(

Intersted to see your final setup (and what Paul ends up running on his SC 2GR as well).

Charlie had a motec m800 installed from my understanding. The problem with that was it is an older gen motec, so he ran out of inputs/outputs etc. The three options are really the aem infinity (only a handful of people that can tune them), the haltech elite and the motec m130 or higher.

The haltech is a marginally cheaper option than the m130, but substancially cheaper than the m150. but at the end of the day, and ecu can only be as good as your tuner knows how to use the ecu.

I will just run the factory ECU for a while until someone else comes up with a reliable tune for a standalone
Seems like the stock 2gr is running near its limits anyway so I would just be after a rev limit increase and maybe traction and launch control

I know from the testing on goukys aem tune the most noticeable difference is increased throttle response which I think from memory was tweaked on the TRD Aurion ECU from the factory

Pretty sure charlie was using a WOLF500 or one of their later series. I doubt the M800 would run out of inputs/outputs on the majority of setups haha. M130/50 is a great ECU for the price and I would prefer a motec over any haltech series simply because of the M1 BUILD program so you can literally rewrite the code for the ECU. Most people have no need or care for this, in which case the ELITE are a great ECU. Best bit about the M1 series compared to the hundred series is they only have 2 packages now, no BS 20 upgrades which cost a fortune (still expensive).

U need the GPR package for the motec to run traction and launch, the haltech traction control is very basic compared to the motec control methods.

Hardest bit about tuning these engines is the cam phasing. Because both inlet and exhaust cams can shift theres a lot of playing around to understand which angle for which RPMs benefit most. Doing a full rpm band run with each iteration of around 10deg phase for inlets, then same for exhaust, overlaying graphs to find the intersecting points to know when to trasition the cam advance....It all takes a lot of time! Cant wait to see this thing running!

Taking a guess here steve but are you getting your car wired up at GR motorsports?

In order to write your own programming you need to buy the developer pack as well.  I was looking at all this jazz a couple of years ago.  You can't just buy the GPR package for example then add your own additional coding.
