What was your plan to relocate the fuel filler to the front?
Its something i was going to do also, however theres not much room between the fuel tank tunnel to come inside the frunk, only that small area were the heater lines would have been and clutch line ect.

Or do it JGTC style

The 2 pipes inside the car, the large is fuel either fill or vent, the smaller is from the front mount intercooler to the intake manifold, which is actually against the cabin firewall as the head is reverse flow! so the exhaust is the boot side, which is why theres a turbo in the boot....

The plan is to make a 'cut out' at the front to increase the size of the access hole where the heater pipes, brakes, etc, go.
A fuel tank will be modified with a filler point at the front and the rear filler point plugged up. Having a new tank built to suit is a waste of time and money so modding the existing makes sense.
Not sure on the dry break but it is a possibility!
All the space behind the steering rack can be used for a surge tank, sealed box for the battery and water injection container. Will help a lot with correct weight balance.

An update, the car is still keeping the carport warm..
It is very close to getting on the trailer for ride to the track but it has been held back by a few electrical gremlins. The dash has not communicating with the ECU or Data logger which looks to be the extension lead being the problem. An easy fix.
The engine bay wiring has been improved with a new loom from the ECU harness to the coils. With all the heat issues from its last outing, it has been completely done with triple layers of heat shrink and a high temp tape on at the connector points. All the other wiring is ok.
Once the weather settles down, I can finish off the last few jobs and drive it again.

I have just finished looking back on the build thread of the car for the first time. What an interesting journey. Its a strange feeling to read all your learning experiences and fumbles which have keep myself and other MR2 enthusiast's entertained for five years this year. Hopefully there will be more tales of driving and less of creating, testing and changing over the next few years.
Thanks for all your help and I hope I can re pay the favour as time goes by.

Cheers

Steve

Hey B24,
Sorry to bring up old news, but I've been reading your thread from the beginning for a couple hours now and have found a few inspiring mods. I'm really interested in your ducted radiator/ bonnet vent. You said earlier that it can be bought and installed for a little over a thousand dollars. I couldn't find who or where it can be bought from. I was also wondering if it was a street legal mod, and if it used the factory bonnet.
Thanks.

Hello Cayn,
Glad I could help out here and there. The ducted radiator was designed and built by myself and a close friend who is a sheet metal worker, completed the task and tidied up the rough edges. If people were interested, we could have fabricated a few units but these times have now passed as he is now too sick to work. If you are 'handy' you are welcome to use mine as a template for your own. You could improve on mine (a lot) with improved joints, made from fibreglass. You would need to fit a vented bonnet (I think) for road worthy. Mine is a factory bonnet with a big hole in it!

Cheers

Thanks, sorry about your friend. I've just recently bought a mr2 and noticed how much it could benefit from ducting the exhausted air through the bonnet. I'll look into the roadworthy requirements in the near future. My car needs a bit of love and money spent on it in other areas before I get radical with mods. Thanks for the advice, I might contact you again when I have the time and money to go ahead with it.

Finally spent a few hours on the car yesterday.
The new wastegate will be here in the next 10 days which has inspired me to actually do some work on the car. The replacement is a Rod Millen spec 50mm unit from synapse engineering. It is the same spec as Rod uses for Pikes Peak on his 503E engine. Hopefully it will be more reliable than the last unit.
The main change yesterday is the water injection tank being relocated to the front of the car for better weight distribution. It is now fitted under the bonnet scoop. The pump will stay in the rear of the car.
The rear wing stays will receive a make over(new longer units made) and the locating points for the rear wing will also be changed to a alloy structure to replace the existing ugly steel unit.
The intercooler will also be removed and replaced with a larger unit and the boot will be replaced with something else with additional ducting for the IC. The back of the car will look a lot better and be more functional and lighter than before.
Also have some more weight reduction coming before the MR2 Trackday Challenge. The goal is to loose another 30kg by the time the event comes around.
