Yes Pat,
The car has been back to the exhaust shop for a week.
The screamer pipe is now a 50mm unit which starts at the rear of the wastegate housing then exits after the rear sub-frame. It was all done using tig welded tubular steel in two pieces.
The dump pipe now has V band on both ends (thank Christ for that..) with the original wastegate entry into the dump pipe, plugged up.
The car was then taken to the MR2 monthly meet, taken off the trailer, lined up with the local guys for a few hours. It was a great night with pic's available in the NSW events thread.
When I started the car, it had a exhaust leak ( Westside Exhaust noted this too) so after checking a few things I narrowed it down to the exhaust/turbo flange. The turbo was removed to find half the gasket missing and both the exhaust manifold and turbo housing flanges were 'quite badly' warped. Both items are now with Dominator Engines getting all flanges machined perfectly flat.
I don't think it will run the turbo beanie again as it may have caused the overheating as no heat could escape. The plan is to make a shroud which contains the turbo heat and sends it 'out and over' the cylinder head instead of across the head.
The wastegate spring has been changed to a lighter unit so we will see if this manages the boost better than the heavy spring. It should be ok.
After starting the thread on the 'wiring a race car', mine will be receiving some much needed attention on Saturday. Relays and circuit breakers will be fitted, wiring relocated, overhaul earthing and power distribution. So a lot of wiring in the cabin will be redone. The wiring into the engine bay will also be looked at in the near future.
Once this has been completed, the data logger, dash and ecu will be able to communicate correctly.
There are a few other 'jobs' coming up which include a carbon fibre/fibreglass dash, undertray to be changed to carbon to fibreglass, lights!, fix the rear bumper, re design the mounting for the rear wing, stronger trailing arm linkages as the current units are weak.
So yeah, a bit done, a bit more to be done and a bit more in the future!
Chances are, I will make a practice day later next week with Ian.
