I just finished watching the video of the MR2. It looked pretty stable, not stepping out at any stage.
Where can I find more detailed information on the car? I tried to google it but with no luck so far..
I have detached all the wiring in the cabin area of the car ready for the wiring alterations. I will not be doing a rewire as its a major job Im not prepared to do at this stage. A friend has been good enough to provide me with orginal workshop manuals for the MR2 as well as the engine(3sge and 3sgte). This will help with removing what I will not be using in the wiring harness.
I also removed the steering lock and column which will be fitted once the wiring is sorted.

The car is an unopened standard 1994 CT 20b Turbo, with a KO R1 exhaust 3" decat pipe along with BMIC plus Power FC and Data Logit controlling the boost. I have slimmed the car down now to 1030kg including full roll cage and Fire Estinguisher System and fluids.

since then his now:-

1026kg ready to race
OE unopened stock motor and lsd box
BMIC with twin spal fans
Power FC with Data Loggit
ATS TD06
R1 Exhaust
Tein HT with pillow ball mounts
ST sway bars
H&T bushing

weight saving:-

The usual, ac, heater, pipes, all interior trim, carpets, doors gutted out with polycarbonate windows, floor sound proof, brake back plates, unused wiring, dash board, unused brackets along with grp wings and frunk lid with cf boot lid.
The R1 exhaust saves a fair bit of weight as does the single race seat with alloy mounts


Made up the windows myself using the original glass as templates and made an upright edge to shape it a bit along with a small tag to hold the front top edge in
If its wet I have to put a little wipe of motor cycle defog, can't remember the name right now
I also removed the bumper reinforcements, a fair bit of weight saved

the only thing i dont like is the lack of door bars. he has left the std side intrusion bar in place on the drivers side but i wouldn't feel safe after andys 3 tree accident at the hill climb without proper door bars. id say cams would also.

It sounds like Im on the right track.
Im doing most of the above.
The doors/cage will not pass Production sports without the inside covered as well as side intrusion bars as part of the roll cage structure. Also the cage is welded to the .9 mm floorpan. This will also not pass CAMS. My cage will be welded onto a box situated on the chassis rails along with side intrusion bars. It will add a bit of weight but a hell of a lot safer..
Im not sure about chopping up the dash for Production Sports. Will have to check the reg's.
Also not 100% on the BMIC re Aust Prod GT.
I will be changing my dump pipe to an after market with the rest of the system already sorted by the previous owner.

Well it sounds like I could meet my target.Mabey 1070kg with a decent cage.

Did he upgrade to lighter brakes?
Alloy brakes hubs?
Alloy calipers?
Was the handbrake removed?
Is it running the power steering or non assist?
Alloy radiator?
Flexiglass rear window?
What can I do with the engine cover?

cut the sh!t out of the engine lid.

the rest you mentioned he doesn't have:) so there is more weight to save.

take everything off under the dash. just leave the dash pad there. there isn't a great deal in cutting the dash in half id say.

he has removed the heater box though.

some classes will require you to keep your heater box (and heater lines) for demisting the windscreen, unless you put the demisting stips accross like the back window ect.

know a few cars that have had to do this, unsure about production sports, i know a few super tt that had to have demisting still

I know it easy enough to cut it up , but it a matter of what the regulations will allow. I just checked the regs and it seems a little murky regarding the dash. I will contact the club to find more info.
You can run carbon guards,bonnet,boot,engine cover, interior trim,door skins(but must have side intrusion, but not clear if that is in the door or the cage itself..).Anything non structual and is bolted on can be replaced.

I plan on removing the steel body on the lid and trimming up the boot and bonnet until Im ready to spend money replacing with carbon.
The heater has gone in mine.

I finally had some time working on the car.
I have been working on reducing the wiring to reduce weight and relocate the switches to the centre console. It crazy if you havent done it before but Im getting there. Another few nights and it should be close to being finished. Five kilo's so far

If people are looking for weight reduction try removing the electric power steering system. You will save TEN kilo's believe it or not! Save the $500 for a CF bonnet to for a 4 kilo gain and remove the power steering system. It for sale if anyone is interested.

All glass is out

Most sound deadner removed

Plenty more to go but its coming together

I noticed you actually have a t-top - what do the current regs say about the glass ttops - i've got CF ones that save only 4kg because most of the weight is in the fittings. Have you thought about a light weight conversion for these fittings? I am toying with a bolt in option but kinda like the tops off at places like wakefield - it's like a super 7 cross mr2 experience

Remebering also that the ttops carry 30kg more than the hard tops so the UK car has a good head start in the weight loss game.
