I am currently still on my ps unfortunately

Then as above, the only legal option would be a beams as it was a factory offered engine for the SW20.

They are a great motor as I am sure Rick will confess!

but everything comes down to the cost

BEAMS are awesome engines… but it's not a cheap swap.

What about buying the car below and tinkering with it until you are off your P's? Once you are driving it sell what you currently own.

Would possibly save you quite a bit of coin.

No, you wouldnt as it was available as an original option. Additiinally it is still from the 3S family so you would not need one.

Ok then fair enough the hard part is finding a cheep one

Have been also thinking more about the 1z i can drive that on my p's and realistically in the long run it would be a better motor more power to parts would be more available also tough decision deciding what one would be more fun haha

The 1ZZ is probably too underpowered for the heavier SW20.

How many years of P plates do you have left?
You have a couple of options to choose from, but at the end of the day you want to be satisfied with the option you choose.

In saying that, take your car to the race track as is! You will have a blast and probably find that you really don't need much more power to have fun and beat a lot of cars.

After my first track day I spent some money on tyres and brakes. After that I had no problem in taking on M3's and Elise's, as well as some turbo cars.

Dont underestimate the 3SGE - It's a trooper of an engine!

From a driving enthusiasts point of view, the BEAMS engines are much better than either the 1MZ or 1ZZ: The last of the 3S engines, which peaked in technical sophistication before Toyota had to start tuning more meekly to meet pollution regulations ahead of power and responsiveness...

The BEAMS has the highest flow rate of ALL the 3S engines in fact, including the 3SGTE. 100bhp per litre (which is as good as many Ferrari engines in terms of power per cubic centimetre), super fast throttle response, still very economical too. Leaves a 1ZZ in the dirt performance wise. Wouldn't swap mine for any other Toyota four!

i just feel that it could use more power and a better throttle response thats why i was considering just buying a standard 3sge and doing it up but i wasnt convinced i would make much more power thats why i have considered getting a beams motor just cant find one at a good price

The amount you would spend rebuilding a gen2 3sge to get upto the same hp levels of the beams would cost you more than a beams.

Halfway option is to fit the gen3 ge.
