Hey Guys,

I am really wanting to buy some new LED dash lights for my MR2 and have been looking at the Super Bright LED page where everyone is recommending them. I want to grab a set but the shipping cost doubles the price, so I was going to see if anyone else there was in need of a set and we could grab a bunch together and save on shipping costs. Let me know, I will make a cut off date for purchase and we can work out payment afterwards. This is the link to the bulbs if you want to have a look.

I would like to keep this in QLD as that saves on shipping again, if we order soon, I can bring them to the AGM meeting if you are there.
Cheers,
Graham

Super Bright LED is not necessarily the best place to go if you need ordering LEDs.
I swapped out my dash bulbs using LEDs off eBay and there have been no problems at all concerning reliability so far.

In case you don't know, 194 and T10 are exactly the same bulb.

Bulbs that I have in my car right now are these:

Thanks for the info Kev. How have you gone with finding the correct colours? I seem to only be able to find the eBay LED's in white? I would like to try a nice blue and I am definitely after the Wide kits that have the 4 LEDs around the side.

Something like this should be good if you want blue. However, since there is some red on the gauge face as well as the needles, they're going to look an ugly brownish purple and will be much dimmer than the rest of you dash under the blue light.

Yeah, the aim is buy a few different colours and see what works best. I have seen some guys do blue and they look quite good, if the LED is bright enough, it can usually do away with the red tinge on the dash. Thanks again

Hi Guys,

Also thinking about replacing my 20 y.o. fading dash bulbs.........how many bulbs need to be replaced?

Will the dimmer still work with LEDs?

Cheers, M

4 bulbs needed for backlighting, one more if u want the low fuel light as well

Dimmer still sort of not really works, since LEDs are much more sensitive to voltages, they are either on or off, not much in between.
In terms of the dimmer on the mr2, voltage gets nowhere low enough, so there is not much difference in light output from lowest setting to highest.

Hope that makes sense :D

Thanks Kev090997, my next question is.......how hard is it to replace the bulbs? Does it mean I have to remove major sections of my dash?

Cheers, M

Plenty of write ups online, basically need to take off 2 panels to the left and right of the gauge cluster, as well as the bits around the shifter.

Took about 1-2 hour when I tried, and I'm a noob. I also had a dodgy alarm system and had many random wires going every where.

Once you get it all figured out, should take no more than 30 mins when you do it the second time

Just for step 6, you don't actually need to separate the vent from the trim piece
