...if your tacho originally connected to the coil negative; this is usually the case on a car which had a single coil and distributor from the factory...

1) Get a relay, pull the cover off and cable tie the moving bit so that it doesn't move (in either position is OK)
2) Select an aux output that you're not using (eg aux output 8 )
3) Set its type to Tacho in the software
4) Connect the aux output to one side of the relay coil (pin 86)
5) Connect the other side of the relay coil (pin 85) to an ignition +12V supply
6) Connect the aux output (which also goes to pin 86 on the relay) to your tachometer input signal

You can buy off the shelf units to do the same thing, probably cost a few more bickies but looks a bit better, MSD Tach adapters do the job.

I had the exact issue with my stock temp gauge.  ~2-3 mins running time n it was almost in the red, but my Greddy was only like 50 or something much more normal, and was near identical to what my ecu was reading.

I tried a few diff sensors but always had the same result.  My conclusion was that, somewhere along the way with me modding my stock harness to have only, temp, reverse and alt wiring as stock I've messed with something enough to stuff the resistance in the circuit.

This conclusion is based on not much knowledge or experience with ecu wiring (other than building my own eng harness) really, lol, but the gauge and sensor were the only constant and the loom was the only thing that change so...  With mine I decided to rely on my Greddy and to not worry about the stock gauge.

oh ok, I do have an aftermarket temp gauge, but would prefer the stock one to be working along side it, just for safety sake...

Also, James, any chance you have one of these said MSD Tach adapters available???
