I have a spare set of 17s needing new rubber. Have you guys got recommendations on what type tyres to get? So far its federal 595rsr's or toyo r1r's. I need to be able to drive it to the track so no toyo r888's, nitto nt01's or advan A048's unfortunately....

Road and Track
neither of the tyres you list are really deigned as track tyres. depending on whose marketing hype you read, they are ' high performance" road tyres, but will be perfectly OK if you are trying to compromise with an every day tyre vs track tyre

the current "hot tyre" for track days is the hankook ventus Z214. once properly bedded in and with correct pressures, you would expect the hankooks to be several secs a lap faster than either of those you list

many of those other tyres are DOT approved and road legal.

Generally you want to be at the track around 7:30-8:00AM.

What's the odds of having to contend with falcobore / commonwhore owners skidding around the track?

I did not hear nice things when MCM did their track day (to be expected), would being friday help? I'm definitely keen if I can get time off work :)

From the couple of practise days I have attended as a spectator, it is generally people who are setting up or tuning race cars prior to events that attend these. This is not a happy laps / circuit n coffee session.

Looks like a good showing for the Queensland crew. Well done Knightrous. I am thinking of coming along for the day if I am free. Not to drive, but to help out if required.
There are a few concerns about tyres but it really doesn't matter what you run as long as you understand when they are starting to change the way the car is behaving. A tyre pressure gauge and temp gauge are a must to getting the most out of the tyres.
Even if you run a tyre with grip, you should be more interested in your brake pads and fluids as these will be letting go before your tyres. Brake failure is not a lot of fun.
Also for those who have been before, treat it like a 'spirited drive' where you can refine your lines. This takes a lot of pressure of your day.
For people who need some more info on preparation for a trackday, check the race/rally menu on the forum. There is some useful info there.
