  • Will 17 x 8.5 +30 clear coilovers, BC racing in specific?

Hi all,

pretty specific question, I am currently running shock + spring combo and I'd like to switch to BC racing Coilovers, I am running 17 x 8.5 +30 front and 17 x 9 +22 rear.

I'm sure the rear will clear but I am unsure if the 8.5 +30 fronts will have enough clearance for the coilovers. Has anyone had similiar setup or seen someone who was able to run this combo?

Alternatively, if someone knows the diameter of the bc racing coilover spring, and it's difference to the standard shock?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

I have Ksport coilovers with 17x8 +25 on the front. It just clears the coilover from memory (about 5mm). Can check when I get home .
I don't think your setup will fit unless you grind something away or put spacers on.

It will be very close.

Wheels themselves just by width and offset don't guarantee fitment, as while two different wheels may have the same width/offset, they may actually measure differently due to size of the lip etc.

The width offset, really only refers to the wheel mounting point and the tyre mounting points.

As an example, I have SSR SP1 18x8.5 +27 with cusco coilovers and they only just clear.

Unless someone has the same wheels and same coilovers, i don't think you'll a yes/no answer to this question. It'll be a close call either way.

It's going to be VERY close but I like your chances.
I have 17x8 +38 fronts and with 215 rubber (little stretch)  and BC coilovers.  The coilovers just rub on the tyres... right where that strip that tyre manufacturers put on their tyres to protect rims from gutter rash, but it's driveable and fine under extreme cornering (ie trackday).

hopefully my lunchtime I cbf calculating it logic is correct and your wheels will sit 8mm further out but be .5" wider (12.7mm) divide this by 2 as offset is from the center line....

I've got 16x8 +30 fronts (r32 gtr wheels) with 215/44 tyres and BC inverted coilovers and it fits. Got less than 5mm clearance. I could possible even use slightly wider wheels and use the camber plates to bring the suspension in to stop it rubbing but I'm not too sure about that.

Totally depends on the specific wheels/coilovers. Bryce was forced to use spacers as his 18x8.5 +30 LE37's didn't clear his Tein Flex coilovers.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'm just going to have to find out the hard way. I've done most calculations and it looks like it will make contact with fronts, the rears will be totally fine though.

I'll update th thread for INFO when I get the coilovers and fit.

i would use a 5mm spacer
i have 8" +35 and mine was just hitting the coilover
with the 5mm spacer installed it got a few mm of clearance.
mine is however the tyre that is rubbing not the rim itself as the tyre has a rim protector which is what is fouling, if it didnt have a rim protector i think i would just clear.
