Hey guys.
Just installed my ATS Racing Sidemount intercooler and getting a few overheating issues.
So after a gruelling install, we finally got the bad boy in and all mounted nicely with the shrouds provided etc etc.
Ran into my first problem when we soldered the wrong wires wrong so the fan was blowing back onto the intercooler instead of sucking (for some retarded reason they colour coded the positive and negatively round the other way?) So I got overheating problems but fixed that with a quick swap of the wires.
Now after driving it for a while (the fan all good now) I'm getting overheating problems. Goes a bit over half way on the dash gauge and the over heating light comes on. The cold pipe is pretty hot as well so not sure where I should start on this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah whats the light look like?
The retarded reason as you say is the fan can be hooked up to either push or pull the air and you need to wire it the right way
Dose the IC fan still work when the lights on?  you might be tripping that circuit
The cold pipe will still get hot with a side mount

By overheating are you implying that you changed the intercooler, and as a result your water temperatures started going up??
 
The intercooler shouldn't have an effect on the water temps, only your intake temps.

$100 says its the ic fan warning light, coming on cause of the change in current draw or impedance whatever the fan ecu monitors, due to the new fan.
 
BTW what fan is it? Some fans that are shipped as a 'pusher' (how yours was) to are reversible to be a 'puller' like yours is now, but requires you to not only swap the polarity, but also swap the fan blade over.

Thanks for your help guys.
Ok yeah so the IC fan was around the wrong way initially so took care of that so it's sucking in air and not blowing.
The light comes on in the right corner (I believe it's the general heat temp light but I may be wrong).

Yeah a few things to note: The coolant bubbles like crazy when it temps read hot and even hisses and makes crazy sounds when I stop the car after it gives the hot reading on the gauge.
I noticed that when I floored it the temps when go down a fair bit and then start to creep up after a drove it sensibly or waited for a set of lights etc etc, of course all of this would happen after about a 20-30 minute warm up then it would start to creep up.

2 issues i believe you have and are not related. The ATS setup is probably making the Fan ECU trip thus making the light go on.
 
You have a coolant/engine issue. Could be a coolant leak or air pocket at best at worst thermostat or even worse a HG....
In a non leaking, properly burped system with a good engine the temp should reach around the 88 degrees and stay put plus a few degrees.
A bit of bubbling is normal when you shut down as the turbo is cooling down

If all you did was an intercooler change & a bit of fan wiring tinkering, you won't affect the cooling system (unless you caused a leak during the previous process).
 
Change for coolant leaks first.

Whats the best way to check for coolant leaks besides the obvious looking for coolant on the ground?

A pressure test but you will most likely need to take it somewhere for that.
