a friend offered me his wheels as hes upgrading them but sure if these would be good on the sw20 but theyre:
Specs: 16x6.5 +45
Stud: 5x114.3
Tyre specs: 225/50/16

would these be ok on the sw20? theyre decent priced and fresh tyres would these be a good fit? cheers.

They would fit almost identically to SW20 stock wheels in the guards. But it is recommended to stagger the widths of the rims or widths of the rear tyre. If you are after flush rim fitment with the guard you will need different sizes and offsets.

Check out this site to use as a guide: http://mr2.gordaen.com/wt_calc.php

Edit: Just to clarify, the rims themselves would fit closely in the guards as stock (93+) in terms of fitment, +6mm front and -6mm rear from stock positions. However, tyre profiles/widths need changing, especially the front. It would be best to save your money and wait for the correct rims/tyre sizes.

Are you are talking about 4 wheels the same, all with 225x50R16 tyres?
If so, they would not be good, because for balanced handling and stability you need staggered (wider rears than fronts) tyre sizes on an SW20, because of the F/R weight distribution. This is especially important if the car is a turbo.

And I don't agree that those sizes are almost identical to stock, especially the fronts.
Although they may fit the hubs, the fronts may foul the spring perches, and even if they didn't the steering would be much heavier than stock.
And with that size on the rear the gearing and speedo would be well out. That rim width for the rear is also a bit narrow anyway.
