Morning folks,
 
I finally drained the radiator on my daily (1993 corolla) and it's full of nice rust coloured water and I'm hoping for some knowledge from here as the internet says many different things.
 
What are the recommended steps to flush and fix (or as best as I can)? 
 
Remove thermostat, connect hose to one of the heater core pipes, undo the tap on the bottom of the radiator, start the engine and just flush like crazy?  Will it get what's in the block?
 
There are a million cooling system flush/rust removal products, what actually works and what's the best way to do it or is it all a gimmick?

Hi Firthy.    Please remove both rad hoses and tstat then reverse flush with hose.    If you dont remove hoses first all the rust scale sludge you stir up from the bottom of the block will choke the inlet tubes of the radiator leading to more FUN.     Enjoy.    Cheers   Doug.

My advice, Just kiss the ground and thank God you don't have to do it on a mr2.

Ace.. thanks fellas.  Managed to flush it a few times then filled it.. and yes, I'm well versed with doing it on mr2 after my head gasket fun so I could not believe how easy it was.  Thankfully!

No, that God you don't have to do it to a supercharged Jag. Hooray for separate cooling systems (engine and intercoolers) joined by a common reservoir.
 
I'd just flush the hell out of the cooling system and put in fresh coolant.

Ace - thanks mate.  Have done and will drive on it for a bit and then do again.  Working a treat so far - the thermostat was an interesting colour.
