My battery is on the way out so in the market for a new one. Given the industry has changed so much recently, has anyone had any experience with light weight batteries or the new lithium generation? Any recommendations?

I have seen some of the batteries done by Braille and also the lithiumax 400 CCA on ebay weighing in at 1.8kg.

Those that Peter mentioned sure sound the goods.  I have used the gell type light weight aircraft batteries.
Lycoming 0- 360 is 8.5 comp.  6 litres and they crank those .  I have no idea on price but you can often get them as time expired from aircraft parts suppliers.

I too need a new battery.  Looking on ebay it's hard to make a decision on which one to buy.
A friend has a small SSB battery in his 5.7 V8, will ring him and try and get more info.

Edit:   This is the SSB battery my friend bought.

Be careful with Lithium batteries. Some of them need a different charging circuit to what your car has.

Just read this in Peters link above.

"SSB PowerSport Lithium Batteries are also one of the only Lithium Ion Batteries that can be charged using normal 12V car battery chargers / alternators. SSB PowerSport Lithium Batteries are also 100% organic, fully recyclable and pollution free, making them an excellent green energy source."

I am probably going to buy a SSB PowerSport battery type LH-14BS. 1.1 kg

Have you come to a decision yet Pat?

I ended up ordering the SSB PowerSport battery type LH-14BS Richard. I called SSB and they noted that these batteries can cause issues with modern charging systems but 'should' not cause issues with the SW20. Peter also spoke to his supplier who mirrored what I was told. 10 kg weight saving is massive.

Note that these batteries are principally designed for motorcycle use and have a different type of battery terminal. There are available screw in "normal" car type terminal posts available to suit these batteries
