Like!!
Not that it changes anything, it's just good to see people publicly "telling it how it is".

I think they should raise the speed limit on suitable motorways to 130 or 140.

Modern cars can drive that speed without effort, if theres three or four lanes, 'fast' lane is for over 120kph only.

Local streets on the other hand, 50kph is fine. Lack of attention and/or impatience is the killer there.
More fatal accidents in lower speed zones, kids on bikes and skateboards going out in front of cars.

The higher speed accidents get the headlines as they tend to be more spectacular and devastating.

Speeding on highways long straight highways isn't generally the cause. Its speeding on suburban streets or tight windy roads.

If anything going faster on the long straight highways might improve road safety as it'll take less time to get places and hence lower the fatigue involved.

Yes indeed.  Check out this test crash at 193kph - a speed just about every modern car can hit without much difficulty.

Started writing a comment, then realised the video said it all.

PROPER driver training is a better investment than spending more and more money on "safer" roads . . .

Interesting that the Newman LNP Government in Queensland is currently undertaking a review of all speed limits and has called for public submissions, although from what the press has been saying the outcomes of the review are probably largely already agreed to.
What is being speculated about is the more than likely increase in speed limits on roads that can take it from 110kph to 120kph (the M1 to the Gold Coast. dual carriageway parts of the Bruce Highway going north, etc.), plus some roads with 100kph limits going to 110kph.
Other roads in urban areas that should be classified for local traffic may be reduced from 60kph to 50kph, but the big plus is that in this process the government is finally conducting proper risk assessments and not just listening to all the doomsayers who want us effectively to go back to the old horse and buggy days.

So 130kph will become the norm as people tend to assume that doing 10kph over the limit 'isn't an offence'

I want to be able to cruise at 140kph to Winton but I'll need that 6th gear!
