Hi there everyone.
Hoping some one can point me in a direction ( prefer S/E Melbourne )  to get my front wheels balanced properly.
The last 2 places I have been haven't solved the vibration that occurs between 80-100 kph. Not happy about going to a Beaurepairs/KMart/Pedders but if any one has positive input ........
Pretty sure/hoping it is just balancing that is needed, but I'm open to other suggestions.
The car is a 1990 G-Ltd N/A  Bridgestone 205/15's on the front.
Car doesn't wander or veer to one side... steering feels ok.
The steering wheel just vibrates on the freeway above 80k's.
I believe some "old" specialist balancing places do the wheels whilst still attached to the car, for greater accuracy?
Not sure which way to go....just want the vibration gone.

have you got aftermaket wheels on the car??
if so have they got the right hub diameter?? if theres no hubcentric rings in the wheels they will vibrate.
check that first if you havent already.

A good tyre shop should be able to balance the wheels properly, hell I've had my wheels balanced perfectly in a very small country town...
 
Check tyres for uneven wear, damage etc too. I've actually had bridgestones in the past deliminate.
IF that doesn't solve it then your front ball joints probably have excessive play - not uncommon.
 

Thanks Guys..will check those options. The wheels are 15" ROH so it may be an issue. Have had them for 12 years on the vehicle.

12 years?
Have they been out of balance all that time or has it started after something you changed recently?
Anyway, sounds like a wheel and hub combination may be out of balance.
I assume that you have checked the front wheels and tires for run out.
 
If the problem is the wheel only locating on the studs and not centered properly,  the chances are that it may only be one side causing it.
You could try swapping each side front alternatively with your spare, (assuming that was balanced too)
to see if the problem goes away.
Plastic hub rings need to be a good fit to cure balancing problems. Accurately machined metal ones would be better.

The wheels have been off for a couple of years "cough cough".
I hardly go over 100Ks except when I go on the freeway so it doesn't rear it's ugly head often.
Just bugs me when it does.
Will check on the rings next time I take her in somewhere.

"Traction Tyre Centre" or "Tyres and more" in Rowville is where I go for wheel/suspension related stuff. They also specialise in motorsport and Yokohama tyres but have good prices too (better than Beaurepaires in my experince anyways)
