dennis the menace
Greetings, fellow travellers.  I have a small favour/suggestion to offer.  Because my affinity for boats is somewhat less than zero (to the extent that it becomes an entertaining spectacle for any bystanders out side of wretching range) I'm flying Melbourne to Launceston, and Louise will pick me up from there on Friday morning.

For the sake of an extra half an hour, would the convoy consider following her into Launceston, and doing a quick photoshoot outside the National Automobile Museum ?  If I may continue to offer suggestions, then perhaps lunch in Ross, which would be about two and a half hours after leaving the boat.

From there Hobart is about an hour and a half further.

Why Ross?  For those who haven't been to Tassie before, they have the most amazing pies!

Incidentally, travel times don't take into account stops for photoshoots - and Tasmania is full of prime spots!

Great ideas Dennis the Menace (now I know why they call you "The Menace") hehehehe!!!!

All the route itinerary is already printed in the Day by Day section of the MR2 Nationals Souvenir Booklet (you've heard of forward planning I'm sure ..... ;-)  ) which will be handed out at the "Bon Voyage" meet or on the Spirit of Tasmania.

HOWEVER .........
All plans are subject to change, I'm sure we can follow Louise to Launceston for a photo opp and lunch at Ross is a real possibility.  All decisions will be agreed to on the "Boat"

the museum is well worth a look if you have time. Ross is a nice spot too and only a 5 minute detour off the highway, either way you will need to stop for lunch so thats a good option as any! fingers crossed the weather is good

Thanks for the offer for entry but I will not be bringing my car to Tassie. I will be flying down on the Saturday then meeting up with everyone at the car show. After the car show, I will catch up for dinner and the trackday on the Monday.
Really looking forward to the trip!

A fantastic Nationals weekend plus the 6 day tour.
It was my first trip there and I found Tasmania amazing, with about 2300 kms clocked up around the twistiest roads I have ever seen.
Imagine a couple of hundred 'Black Spur' roads end to end, or a few dozen 'Great Ocean Roads' one after the other.
Imagine also not seeing another car for a half an hour while you are driving them - how good can it get lol?

Baskerville was a very interesting track and we all had a ball.
One of our NA Sdubs put in an incredible 200 kms on the day (90 odd laps) so you can get an idea of how much he enjoyed it, especially since he also had to drive it all the way back to Queensland lol.
I'm sure there will be a lot of pics posted when people get a chance.

Here is a pic of the 'Show and Shine' in Hobart on the Saturday.
I didn't count the numbers, but several Tas cars were also displayed, with perhaps about 30 MR2's all together.
The '90 model red Sdub in the foreground won first prize for being completely stock with zero mods - unusual these days.

It was a great event and a serious effort for those that travelled interstate

The event was brilliant. It was a car-enthusiast's dream holiday. Tasmania has so many twisty mountain roads with scenic views of mountains, water and trees. The event made you experience the all aspects of owning a sports car with the cruise through country roads, show n shine and the track day - along with a bunch of nice people with the same interests.

I have attended 2007, 2011 and this 2013 MR2 Nationals, and it's just getting better and better. I am already looking forward to the next MR2 Nationals in 2015.

I also recommend Tasmania as a holiday destination. There's so much history and heritage in that place.
