Magnesium burns with an incredibly bright flame - it's spectacular! I can't imagine what a sump like this going up would be like - it'd light up the MCG.

Yeah can burn quie well, can make a nice bright light IIRC, and pure magnesium on fire when you add water makes hydrogen gas, which is flammable too, so dont put out with water, or carbon dioxide for that matter

Performance wheels were originally made from magnesium, hence "mag wheels". Afaik it got phased out because if they caught alight they were too hard to put out + aluminium was a good alternative. Watching that poo poo burn in hs science was awesome :D
