The original plan was to do it on the ground. Let's just say I'm glad that did not happen as it would of taken me a few days and a fair bit of frustration. The hoist allows for clear vision, ease of access, you can walk the length of the car and remove a layer of bolts in one pass (E.G. entire underbody plastics off within couple of minutes). Also having someone that has done it before makes the process infinitely smoother. The tank was out within the hour. We were able to leave the coolant lines connected and push them aside to drop the tank. Replace as many fuel hoses as you can because they will be old and hard. It will make the process of reconnecting the fuel hoses easier and give you piece of mind for the future. It was a bit fiddly getting the tank back into the right position and connecting the hoses to the evap vent. Again, having exta helping hands is invaluable.

Ah yes, that accursed evap vent searator thingo.
For anyone contemplating this job, when I did my car, when re-assembling I made the mistake of not connecting the evap hoses before raising the tank fully in place. Almost impossible to fit them if you do it that way.

Yes, a hoist is really needed for this job, since most jack stands won't give enough underneath clearance to manouver the tank out.
Anyway, congratulations on a job well done!

Well done Guys
Seriously looking at getting a hoist the amount of times I have my cars off the ground.
How do you rate the HAPP hoist ?

I love it. Got it as part of the early adopter program for $2300.

Love working on cars now

I had been toying with the idea of retiring the MR2 from daily driving duties for months. I finally made the decision and bought a VW Golf GTI MK5. The MR2 is now parked up in the garage for the days I want to use it.

Great idea having a reliable Toyota parked up ready to save the day when the European crap falls to bits.
How many kms. on the good car now?

My reliable Korean car hit 50k this week... Three years.

15 years would only have it as a 2006 release... Your MR2 is 25 years right? Good bloody innings.

The SW20 is 23 years old. It's still making me smile when I look into the garage.

Golf GTI MK5 is 2007 model. It's nice to drive in the traffic. Comfortable and surprisingly quick!
