For those with NA engine lids you will know the struggle of cleaning the rain guard due to it permanently fixed to the engine lid and limited access to the paint. The rain guard sees the sun but rarely if ever gets polished or waxed. The fading below is especially noticeable on daily driven red cars.

Today's project I designed and 3D printed up detailing tools to assist with the job. It was probably the most satisfying and rewarding finish. I'm planning to do comprehensive top to bottom detail in the next few weeks, I will keep updates coming throughout the process.

Thanks, Kris! I decided to order the DA polisher after the meet up last weekend, should be arriving tomorrow. I gave myself an attainable goal of where I want the car to be in the next few weeks.

I was lucky enough to be able to do a full paint depth check over all the metal surfaces before I start any paint correction. I'm not after a mirror finish but I do wish to reduce the swirl marks and increase the shine.

The results came back as I had expected with the Japanese single stage paint, no surprises. I found 2 spots that were down in the 60-70 micron range but the majority of the paint was in the low to mid 100s.

Quick and easy way to track the data is to take photos of each zone and write the measurement at the approx location.

The new DA polisher arrived. I started a test area on the frunk using different pad combinations. However after completing 1/4 of the frunk the machine sparked through the plastic guard vents and sounds like it's shorting out when the machine changes angle... Hopefully the interstate return/exchange is simple enough. I'm guessing it will be another 2 weeks before I can try again.

Photo of the test area. Reduction in swirls and increased brightness.

Thanks for the offer, Kris. I'm in no rush since I have a couple busy weekends coming up.
