Well it has a tune
Green line on waste gate spring only low boost
Red line 18psi high boost.
This is a very safe tune.
This car has far more power to go if i want. Will look at a more after putting 5000kms on the motor.
To get this extra power we will tune higher boost leaner afr, tune each cylinder and adjust cams gear to see what the motor likes.
This power has work out just how I wanted it. Heaps of mid range torque. If I want more above 6000rpm I will change exshaust housing from .64 to .82. at this stage I love it just the way it is.
I let Mike drive it he replied saying "this is the fastest 3-sgte mr2 he has driven the response is excellent and it does not need any more power." It's hard to impress him.
The tuner thinks with the current setup power could be acheived between 250 to 280 rwkw will be the target when I bring it back.

For those who do not know.
When I got the tune I did not yet setup my EGT Sensors. I wish I did. 2000 kms later on I now have stuff pistons, head and valves due to detonation. Thanks to my tuner. Not happy. It's been six months now and the current repair costs so far $4500 this hurt. I'm adding NX-SNO_201 Watermeth kit to help with engine IAT temps.

You don't need EGT sensors to have a safe tune.
It sounds like you need to find a new tuner.

He tuned my black Mr2 that I brought to Walkfield.
Did he have a bad day?
The EGT would help as still using stock intake manifold to adjust individual cylinders as you know they don't flow evenly.

My point is that he tuned your engine too close to the edge. Good tunes have a little bit more fuel and a bit less timing to what will give the maximum power to have headroom for error.
I'd rather make 5% less power than have a blown up engine that made more power. 😊
The flow differences between runners on that manifold is well known and should have been added to the tune.
I have that included in my GT4 tune. I have a little bit more fuel in 2,3 and a bit less in 1,4.
If your engine had a safe tune, it wouldn't have detonated.
EGTs are your last line of defence so you can use with engine protection. EGTs are not your first line of defence against detonation.

I agree with that. I would of perfered that action to have taken place first.

Yeah. It sucks that this happened.
I had an engine melt the tops of two spark plugs a few years ago. The bits of metal then got stuck in the value seats causing loss of compression. I had to rebuild the engine, as the pistons and bores were also damaged.
I then changed to a different tuner and haven't had an issue since. My current engine makes good power and has been very reliable for years!
I go to Croydon Racing Developments for my tunes. They are a bit too far away for you though!

A little update motor back in the car and running it in. all seem well so far.
