MIDN1T3

Hey guys/gals!

Thought I'd finally show my MR2 that I own up here in the tropics, good ol Darwin....just never got around to it before lol.

It's a Black 1990 MR2 N/A with a 1994 GEN 3 GTS swap.

Bit of history on the car...

My brother bought it about when it had the n/a engine in it and about 180ks on the clock. Lovely to drive, nothing wrong with it...just didnt have that power that other turbo'd MR2's had.

The only modifications at the that time:
Gen 3 front lip
Passenger air scoop
OZ Italy Rims (Front 16x7 - 205/45/16, Rear 16 x 8 - 225/45/16).

Here it is the day he bought it...

Then the time the gearbox gave up the ghost...couldnt get first, or third and reverse made a really bad crunching sound.

So thru High Tech Tuning (up here in Darwin), a GEN 3 half-cut was sourced and sent over from Japan...it had done 55ks and came over with rear coilovers, HKS HiPower 3" Exhaust, Blitz BOV DD.

We also replaced the clutch with a Heavy Duty Sports Exedy clutch and then began the process of putting the Gen 3 in at home. It took a coupla weeks and we mainly went off other people Gen 3 swaps from forums such as mr2.com. Much sweat, blood and tears ocurred!!!

After the swap was done, my brother was enlisted into the army so I bought the MR2 and then began the process of sorting out all the little things that needed to be fixed.

I also have just finished putting on GEN 3 tailights, tinted the windows, added a boost gauge (running stock 13 psi atm), fitted crystal black indicators, wired up the foglights as they weren't working before, and looking at getting the interior re-done as it is a litte worn atm.

Here it is...(sorry bout the quality, it was getting dark)

(I know...the engine bay needs a clean!!!!!)

Things that still need to be done (probably take some time as I'm a uni student lol):
- ABS and Engine oil level warning lights always on (due to the GEN 3 not having ABS and an engine oil level meter) Any suggestions????

- Suspension issues - Some Jap brand coilover at the rear, springs n shock at the front (I'm thinking of either getting coilovers all the way around or going for new springs/shock combo - dont have previous rear springs/shocks as the whole engine/gearbox/cv shafts/hubs/suspension was sold altogether)

- Need new rims, OZ italy ones are buckled at the front. I would like the same type of design as these ones (staggered, 5spoke, polished silver, dish), but just in 17 inch.

Anyhow, thats my car. Love driving it, Feel free to make sugestions about the issues that still need to be sorted.

ABS and Engine oil level warning lights always on.

Why not try taking the bulbs out of the dash, as you don't really need them anymore.

    Thanks guys!

I'v actually had a bit of hassle with the police about the black indicators when I was pulled over once. They were not sure if they met ADR requirements..? I replied with as long as the indicator gives off a yellow light (and they do), then why wouldn't they? They let me go after that...

Anyone else had problems with their black indicators?

Also, MR2QUIK, love your car...hopefully one day mine will look as clean! Where did you get your red side reflectors? the ones that clip on the side of the tailights...mine are yellow and I'm after the red ones like yours.

5SGTE - thanks for the suggestion, one of my mates also said the same thing. Is it possible to bridge the oil level wires to stop it sending a warning to the dash?

By the way, thought i'd post up pictures of the halfcut. she's bare now, with the tailights removed (now on my car) and no engine lol.

I'm thinking of getting the engine lid and the wing painted and putting them on.

    Wow that is tidy!!

If you are using the wing, you may as well just use that bootlid - saves you welding up and drilling new holes.

Really - cant wait to find myself a black turbo so I can finally upgrade!

    PS: Sending you a PM!

Jezza - yep, thinking of putting the engine lid, bootlid + wing on for sure...just building up some funds first, wanna do it all at teh same time. I'd also need to shave off the old side of the wing that runs along the side of the bootlid.

Chase_d ...Thanks mate, its still a fair bit off how I would like it but getting there!!! also PM replied.

kyp2nyt - Thanks mate, seen your car around too, very clean looking mr2 - those rims you've got on it are massive!

What engine do you have it in?  One of my mates reckons you've got a Gen 2...?

Thanks! She's in need of a bit of cosmetic care actually...You'll see when you look at her up close. My rims are 18" Work Equips sourced by dylmrt from this forum (blessings and peace be upon him).

Yeah I have a Gen2 turbo. Have some goodies sitting at home ready to go in but I've been slack when it comes to the car :(

Hey are you using the rest of that half cut? I need a few panels

Kryp2nyt - We'll have to do a cruise one day, got 2 other mates who's got a mr2s so should be able to organise it one day.

About the halfcut, got a few plans for it (engine lid, boot and wing) and the rest of the panels have a few scratches and cuts.  Let me know what you're after and I'll see if I'm going to use it or not...

I was after the rear bumper??? Mine got caught on something years ago (too low) and got twisted off. Got it repainted but the twisted section is weak and the paint cracks.
If you're going to put on the wing from the half cut what do you plan to do with your current 3 piece wing?

I don't have too much spare time to go cruising but let me know and if I'm free I'll come along for sure! Zmit had a hard enough time getting me to come cruising when he was still here!

Sorry mate, going to use the rear bumper for mine later on - my current one has a nasty scratch on it.
Basically saving up funds to put the gen 3 boot and wing, engine lid and rear bumper painted and put on...probably take a while as I'm flat out at the moment.

The current 3 piece wing I dont really have any plans for once I put the other wing on - I'll hold onto it if you want it.
